Hey Gang!

Just had my 1st experience with this on Memorial Day!

Went to our annual outdoor memorial day brunch & was having my 1st bloody mary & started seein bright stars & sat on a picnic bench & ended up underneath it passed out for about 30 secs & then was helped up & went out 2 more times. When they got there my BP was 50/30! I was taken to the ER by ambulance. So they ran all the tests at the hospital & kept me over night with a heart monitor on & was let go the next day to have a glucose test done later to rule out diabeties.

Just wondering if anybody else has been diagnosed as having dehydration with lack of eating as the "trigger" for vasovagal?

Take care... Dave!

I don't think it's too uncommon for alcohol + sun + dehydration + lack of eating to cause what happened to you. We also don't know anything about your age, weight and general health including medications you may be on.

Be well!

Just wondering if anybody else has been thru this & if anemia could contribute to this as my levels are a little low & my Doc has put me on a high level iron script.

Dave I had this happen when I was pregnant many moons ago. We know that is not your situation...lol but the cause of mine was undetected fluid behind the ear drum. My bp was 70/50. I kept going to doctor after doctor and they would blame it on my pregnancy. However, afterwards I still continued with dizziness and low b/p. The 6th dr I went to suspected it was my ear and stuck a needle through the eardrum (it didn't hurt) and pulled out old blood that had been there for awhile. Why other ENT dr's didn't find it I dont know. I had surgery, a tube put in and I was fine but permanently hard of hearing.

I fainted a lot when I was bleeding internally. Everytime my hemoglobin drops below an 8, I start fainting as well. Good luck Dave!

I have "seen" little silver floatie things, mostly in the perihpery of my vision. I looked around the internet after one frightening episode, as I was in the supermarket and suddenly I had a shower of silver floaties come raning down in my entire field of vision.

I read, but only anecdotally, that is has to do with blood pressure. I also read it has to do with sudden changes in blood pressure, and finally, I read that it has to do with low blood sugar episodes.

I tend to side with blood pressure, since I have always been prone to feel dizzy when I got up from bed or laying down. I think they call it orthostatic hypotension.

In your case, I wonder about your low blood pressure. Did they give you a reason for it?

In my case, I am iron deficient, but I am also hypothyroid and am on the low end of the blood pressure range, but not clinical. I think in my case it comes from the hypothyroidism.

I do know that anemia can be a cause of clinical low blood pressure (hypotension), but I wasn't sure if you were just "low" on iron or had actually been diagnosed with anemia.

Just keep an eye on it, or if it would make you feel better, you could buy a blood pressure cuff and keep a log to show your dr, like patients with high blood pressure do. :) I am sure I would have been freaking out, since I have never actually fainted, just had the pleasure of the stars and silver floaties.

I haven't fainted, but I get very dizzy and lightheaded when my iron (ferritin) is low.
I also get low blood pressure. After my infusion, these symptoms went away. Are you going to see a hematologist?

Hey all... thanks for the input... at this point I do not have any internal bleeding based on the tests that they did at the hospital (rectal digital inspection [sorry for the detail!] & some kind of tube down the throat into the stomach to test for ulcers... both not fun!).

I am slightly anemic (maybe from alchohol?) & have started on an RX iron suppl (Folitab 500) they also did a fasting glucose test that I do not have the results of as of yet but they do not beleive I have low blood sugar as when I got to the ER (took 10 min from my black out) it was 186.

I am also on high blood pressure pills so that may have been a factor & they feel it was primarily related to dehydration & starvation symptoms (I had drank beer & skipped a meal the night before).

Anybody here been on Folitab 500's & how long did it take for you to see improvement in your fatigue as I am still pretty tired (been on the Folitab now for 7 days now).

Thanks again... take care... Dave!
