Hi everyone,

I'm currently waiting for a appointment for surgery on my left foot for bone/toe fusion of the little toe. I was born with my little toe over-lapping the next toe and this has caused the fusion.

I wasn't told much by my orthapeadic surgeon except for I wont be able to walk for a minimum of 6 weeks and my foot will be kept straight so I wont be able to move it. Not very helpful really.

So I was hoping people who have had toe fusion surgery could tell me how long before you could walk again? Was your foot in plaster of bandages? Did the foot hurt a lot post surgery?

Thanks. :)

My doctor didn't tell me much, lol. Can anyone else answer my questions? I'm a bit nervous as I was told there's risk involved with my surgery due to a medical condition I have. It basically means I'll need blood transfusion after surgery because of this. Hopefully someone can answer my questions anyway. Oh Im 21.

in terms of walking, it all depends on how the toe is healing. he may have you start walking after 6 weeks. you should ask the dr all the questions you can think of.

Hey again Deb. Yeah I'm definitely going to ask him all the questions. Problem is I wont be seeing the surgeon until the day of my surgery and I'm waiting on that appointment now. Could be anytime from a few weeks to 5 months. I hate NHS waiting list. Thanks again. :)

Hey I have a(nother) problem with my feet, my Big toes overlap the ones next to them. The surgeon put pins in to straighten them out but this didnt work... so i might need it redoing in the future. I have lovely scars about 7cm long on the side of each foot. when i had this done i was off my feet for about two to three months and using a wheelchair...

similar to your problem but not the same... good luck with the surgery
