I don't know why I'm posting here or what kind of response I expect to get. My girlfriend overdosed on some pain killers, I don't know what is exactly, I am a few thousand miles apart with no way of getting to her.

The previous day she took 6 methadones and some sleeping pills and was barely able to wake up.

I am told she was taken to the hospital, resuscitated and she is now on life support. She has been this way for almost 3 days now. The doctors say that it's at best a 20% chance that she will wake up. They say she is in critical condition.

I'd like to know if anyone has been through this and knows if there's a chance she will make it out. I love her with all my heart and this is killing me.

I'm pretty certain that she tried to kill herself, because she has more or less been living a big lie for the last two years. I won't go into it here for various reasons.

Her brothers are arriving there shortly and will probably want to take her off life support. I can't get any sleep and it's like a nightmare I just can't wake up from.

if there's a 20% chance she will come out of this, her brothers would be ill-advised to "pull the plug" at this point. altho it may seem contadictory. these days serious OD patients are frequently kept in a well-controlled but artifically-induced coma for several days. the body heals faster and the patient is not in and out of wakefulness fighting the IV's, the staff, and the incoherence many find themselves in after an OD. talk to her family. find out what the professionals have advised. additionally, mental health profesionals frequently have no intention of "pulling the plug" on OD patients unless the case is truly hopeless and there is severe brain or other organ damage. even if the patient has given the permission and the family is ambivalent, obviously the permission was gained when the patient was not "of clear mind." best of luck to you. she'll probably be physhically fine, but you and her family may have a bumpy road ahead in terms of her mental halth issues. but maybe not. i hope not.
