When you say back side of toe do you mean the part you walk on?

Hi...aside from going to the doctor, you could try soaking your foot in a very warm (that you can handle) table salt & water solution. I just fill a basin with warm water and pour in about 1/4 cup of salt. The soaking will help the swelling plus help infection and clean out anything that might be in there.

Let it dry thoroughly, don't walk on anything without it being protected. You should then put some polysporin cream and a bandaid. After it's healed closed, you could try a cream that has an antifungal in it. It could be from a fungal infection or from an allergy or just from rubbing in your shoes.

Have you been wearing sandals?
