Hi
I was diagnosis a couple weeks ago. Lord knows I tried to deny this is what I had. I first notice I was getting thirsty at night and my eyes were getting blurry. I finally had to admit this is what it might be and went to my doc who did a blood test and sugar glucose level was 561. I was put on insulin slowly. I have manage to bring my sugar glucose down nicely. Fasting first thing in the morning, this mornining was 103. I have managed to keep it under 300 in spite of having to take prednisone. I have cut the preds down to 10mgs. a week.
My big question is when are my eyes going to get better? Last week for a couple of days I was seeing normal and boy did I take advantage of that and drove my car. But alas it came back. This time it seems different. They are blurry all the time, meaning even when I wear my glasses to read. Does anyone have this problem and how long does it take to get better?
I appreciate any and all info anyone would give me. This is very frustrating. I have other problems also with my health and feel quite defeated with the others as diagnosis is iffy.

Hi Anna

Do you go to an opthamologist on a regular basis? If you haven't been for awhile, this would be a good time to go. I am not diabetic, but know it is essential that diabetics see an opthamologist.

Best of luck to you.

Quite right. You should have a dilated eye exam if you haven't had one recently. If the blurring is directly due to your blood sugar, it should stop when your levels are normal/slightly high and start when they are high. From what you said this probably isn't the case. It could be that your blood sugar levels were very high for a long time and have caused damage which may or may not be reversible, either naturally or by some type of procedure. Of course, it could be completely unrelated to the diabetes. Any way you look at it, the sooner you get them checked by a pro the sooner you will have information about what it is and what to do about it.

Hi

I am Also taking prednisone and wondering how this affects your glucose levels, i was diagnosed as a type 2 diabetic about a month ago. and had no idea that the pred affected it in any way. I am on 5 - 10mg daily for rhuematoid artheritis. If i dont have it i have severe pain and battle to walk.
I Have noticed my eyes becoming sore and blurring latley as well but thought it was due to fatigue, so i have learned something new.

High glucose levels can make your vision blurry. While a dilated eye exam is very important, there isn't much point in having your prescription checked while your sugar is still high. It can take as long as a couple of months of normal blood sugar for everything to get back to normal. If you are on prednisone, your sugars may be wonky for quite some time and it is important to keep in contact with your doctor about this.

Good luck.

Cora
