My dr suspects I have mercury toxicity and has me doing a 24-hour urine DMPS mercury challenge test. 250mg orally.
I can't find any objective information on the web. Most of the stuff I'm finding is either from people selling their own chelating protocols or bashing DMPS altogether because it isn't FDA approved.
I'd really appreciate any info you'd have on this.
Thanks!
where is the mercury coming from?

It could be coming from 3 possible sources: 1. the huge amounts of vaccines I had as a child (we travelled a lot internationally and had to have a full round of shots going each way. Vaccines were often preserved with Thimerosal which is 50% mercury); 2. my amalgam fillings (most are over 10 years old and I have 12 of them); and 3. my sushi addiction (tuna is very high in mercury, but since it also contains selenium, the mercury tends to be excreted so this is probably the least-likely source).

I hope that you aren't chealting as of yet. Chelating should be done after amalgam removal. It isn't wise to chelate as long as you have mercury still in your mouth. I am in a similar situation, I had tons of shots being in the air force (at least 25 or 30) and I had many fillings. I just had a total of 8 removed and I have 3 to go. After they are removed then I will chelate. One must be careful who does the removal, if you have any dentist do it then that could be a big problem which can cause more problems than it solves. I go to a mercury free dentist.
Some supplements that will help in the meantime are reduced l-glutathione, matathione, vit b6 and b12, vitamin c, garlic oil, selenium and vitamin e.

Another quick thing, mercury will not always show up in the urine or hair until chelation is started.

Hi! We seem to be showing up on the same boards these days. :)
Other than the DMPS challenge test, my dr hasn't suggested any kind of chelation therapy. Most likely because there are more acute issues we're currently dealing with. The results of the DMPS challenge test came back with elevated mercury, but it was lower than the dr expected. Interestingly enough, my RBC elements test came back showing higher-than normal amounts of arsenic, lead, cadmium, thallium and manganese.
It's going to take awhile to get my amalgams removed, due to financial constraints. Fortunately, there's a dentist right down the road that claims to be "mercury-free". Once I get back from vacation, I'll be making an appt to see if they follow the appropriate protocol for amalgam removal.
I'm currently taking the following supplements daily for various reasons:
4000mg vit C
3 drops of Lugol's solution
75mg iron (as ferrous succinate) - for iron deficiency
400mg magnesium (as magnesium citrate)
400mg selenium
2000 IU vit D - for deficiency
1600 IU vit A - included in the vit D supplement
1000mg Omega-3 fatty acids (as fish oil)
100mg Vit B-complex
400mg Vit E-complex
A good multi-mineral, including trace elements
