Have you heard about the innocent nurses and doctor sentenced to the Death Penalty in Lybia?? What do you think about it?

They have been accused to inoculate 426 children with AIDS in the Pediatric hospital of Benghazi in Libya. During more than eight years, these six foreign medic volunteers were refused to have a fair trial. After being tortured and sentenced to the death penalty for the first time on May 6th 2004, they have been sentenced to the death penalty, for a second time, on December 19th 2006 by the Libyan Justice, thus provoking the indignation of the international community, of the Human Rights defenders and of the health professionals of the entire world.

In 2006, new elements confirmed the conclusions presented in 2004 by distinguished specialists of AIDS. It clearly appears that the infection started prior to the arrival of the nurses and the doctor in Libya, that the virus spread after their departure and that it is due, like in many other countries (China, Romania and Kazakhstan) to a lack of sanitary precautions and the repeated use of unsterilized medical equipments. Besides, we can notice that in its decision the Libyan Justice admitted the responsibility of the Libyan State by condemning it to pay important indemnities to the children's families.

ECPM (a French NGO) is trying to gather as many signatures as possible. The petitions (on http://www.abolition.fr/ecpm/french/petitions.php?ref=27) will be presented to the German Chancellor and current President of the European Union, on June 21st, so please sign it!
