Pinkstar,
It definitely is possible to have a perfectly normal baby even if you're diabetic, but the key is getting your blood sugars under extremely tight control. Being on the pump should make this much easier, but you will have to immediately start testing MANY times a day...8-10 is quite common for pregnant diabetics.

If you're constantly running high, you may need to tweak your basal rates. Or you may be underestimating carbs. Whichever it is, it would be a good idea to meet with your doctor or another health care professional who is experienced with pregnancy in diabetics for guidance as to what to eat and when, and what your blood sugar goals should be. I don't know what pump you're on, but you should be able to use the bolus wizard feature to set up blood sugar goals, even several for different times of the day.

It is extremely important to get your bg under control IMMEDIATELY, as the first trimester of ANY pregnancy is critical for the baby, and even more so with a diabetic mother.

Hopefully, this will end up serving as a great incentive for you to take charge and stay in control, even after the baby is born. I know you want to be there for your child not only during pregnancy, but throughout his or her life!

Ruth
