I had a cone biopsy done on May 2nd which revealed I had stage 1a2 cervical cancer. My Dr. told me the cone had clear margins which meant the cancer was removed but said I needed to have a hysterectomy to make sure there were no "skip lesions". (I have adenocarcinoma). Anyway, I recently had sex with my husband for the 1st time since the cone biopsy (which was over 4 weeks ago) and started bleeding, not spotting, but bleeding right afterwards. I don't know what this could mean. I thought you should avoid sex after a cone biopsy for 3 or 4 weeks. Is the bleeding normal since it has been over 4 weeks already. I also thought that if the margins are clear the cancer in the cervix was removed. I am a little confused:confused: and scared. Has anyone else had this happen to them and can give me some info? Thanks:wave:

Your cervix may bleed after intercourse for several months after your cone. The tissue is still delicate and healing.
The clear margins mean that the cancer probably was removed, but the doctor just wants to be safe and be sure that no undetected stray cells were left behind, since adenocarcinoma is more aggressive than carcinoma.

Thank you Timber for the reply. I was beginning to think I was the only one this has ever happened to! I will be having a trachelectomy soon so the cancer (hopefully) NEVER comes back. Again, much appreciated,Sharon

I had a LEEP a year ago and still occasionally bleed after sex. Doctor has examined my cervix multiple times and I have had 3 normal PAPs since. Doc says the surgery can just make the tissue more delicate. Sounds like that may be the case for you.
Let us know how the trachelectomy goes, as I've never seen a post from someone who has had one.

I was daignosed with 1b2 adenocarcinoma of the cervix 5 yrs ago. My Dr said have a hysterectomy- mainy becasue they don 't know a lot about the travels of adenocarcinoma. I studied and had a trachelectomy in LA. I have bleeding on and off all the time with no answer as to why except that the cervix or whats left has granular tissue, I've had them use this stuff callef silver nitrate ( I think thats what its called) and it helps for a while. I bleed most offen at intercourse. My husband has gotten used to it,but sure does hamper those out of the blue moments. Also find bleeding depends on position and time of cycle.
I had a radical trachelectomy with pelvic lymphondectomy. I was 31 when diagnosed.

To snobun1. You are the ONLY person I have ever come across that had a trachelectomy AND was staged at 1b2. You are my biggest source of inspiration right now because obviously NO lymph nodes were involved and you have been cancer free for over 5 years! That's great to hear! I was dx with stage 1b1 and am trying to have a trachelectomy in Manhattan. I am trying because I don't know if my insurance will cover that particular procedure. BTW, I HATE insurance companies. I was just wondering what your Dr. told you about getting pregnant. Have you had children after your surgery? My Dr. told my if all is well, I can try to get preg 6 months after the surgery. I did not even know you could get pregnant without IVF but apparently you can. I have a 4 month old little boy and would love to give him a brother or sister one day. If you can give my ANY info on your experience with having a trach, I would be sooo grateful as I have said you are the only woman I know that has had this procedure done. Thanks so much, Sharon

I replied to you on my post. I believe a lot has changed in the process of trachelectomys since I had one. I was told 4 - 5 years to try pregnancy. The condition of your cervix will determine if you can get pregnant naturally. Scar tissue, granular tissue all a deterant. Your cervix has to creat mucus at ovulation for the sperm to (wash its self) and travel up where it belongs. Damaged or removed cervix's won't make the mucus. I had about 98% of my cervix removed and have 2 cerclauses in place. I had 4 IUI's which led to the die test, which didn't work- so I went back under and had cameras inserted in my abdomen- showing two blocked tubes. Damaged from scar tissue, from surgeries and the staples running in those area's.
we have no children and being from a small town in eastern washington - surrogacy, IVF aren't things that are done on a daily basis. IVF Dr's want performance numbers and I'd be a high risk. Surrogacy is equally expensive. So I am doing more alternative options and learning about my body - I am not quite ready to give up. I think surgery procedures are more advanced now and if they are telling you 6 months- hey that is great.

I had my CKC May 10th and was told by my doctor to wait at least 6 weeks before having intercourse. Six weeks will be this Thursday, but my husband is out of town until July 1st...so that gives me a bit more time to heal. I asked my doctor about intercourse and bleeding, because it has been a concern, and she said that there is always a chance that you can bleed after the surgery. If I do happen to bleed, then wait another 2 weeks before trying again to give the cervix more time to heal. It's amazing all the different things that different doctors say....craziness...Best of everything to you...and know that prayers and thoughts are being sent your way....
Take care and God speed....
