LikeWow 06-05-2007, 07:22 AM Im having one in July has anyone else had one done? id like to know what to expect... :S Craig 06-05-2007, 08:44 AM Sorry I'm no help, but am curious also. My foot/ankle dr is recommending arthroscopy for me also, to clean out scar tissue that is impinging in the joint. He sayed I'd be walking the next day, and back to normal activity in 4 weeks. Keep us posted, as I'm still in decision mode. carol1225 06-05-2007, 12:32 PM Like Wow and Craig I had ankle arthoscopic surgery 12 yrs ago due to my ankle locking and general pain. I had three small incisions which are not even noticeable today, total of five stitches and they cleaned out the joint, debridment, spur removal, cyst removal and they shaved some bone that the they thought was "catching". If you have further questions, please feel free to ask. Oh yeah.. I am on my second ankle surgery 8 months ago, had Mosiacplasty done (cartilage and bone transplant) - now that on the other hand... brutal! All my best! Carol _swank_ 06-05-2007, 01:51 PM I've had both my ankles scoped. Initially it's pretty painful, moreso than a knee. But the recovery is fairly quick. Takes about a month to feel normal. pompomchicka21 06-05-2007, 05:58 PM HI.....I'm having Ankle Arthroscope on June 14th. I was told that I have to be on crutches with no weight bearing for 6 weeks! Umm...they finally reached this conclusion only a year after I initally injured my ankle! Umm..my doc told me my ankle will never be 100% and thats a hard blow for me since i was a Dancer for 15 yrs and also and gymnast and cheerleader. Hopefully this surgery does the trick cuz I've already been in 2 cast crutches for 2 1/2 months walkin boot for 2 months and air cast for the rest of the time! And I was told this surgery might not work and the next option is takin out a plug of bone/cartlege in my ankle and gettin some carlting plugs from my knew, but that is way more invasive and I'm in the process in moving to a differen state! So I will try to post what is going on with it and how the pain is to let you know. This is my first scope, so wish me luck! skyhighifly 06-05-2007, 09:04 PM I had one done 10 years ago when I was 15. The great "clean sweep". Scar tissue removal, bone spur removal, removed loose cartilage, and also had moderate synovitis. Went home with is wrapped and in a Cryo/Cuff. Started partial weight bearing the day after and by that night was able to put full weight. Never any pain. They numbed it up and it lasted pretty long. At about 6 weeks, I was back to tumbling (gymnastics). Not bad at all. pompomchicka21 06-05-2007, 10:23 PM Well thats what i hope mines like...but i don't thing I'm having normal arthroscopic surgery....I know hes going to clean it up...but hey said something about "drilling/puttin holes" in the bone so stem cells float up and create "secondary Caralidge". I wish i could have the surgery already...i'm tired of waiting cuz I keep constantly spraining my ankle! blakemall 06-06-2007, 01:23 AM Hi: I had an ankle arthroscopy/debridement and drilling done June 30th of last year. I spent 8 weeks nwb and another 4 partial weight bearing. Although my ankle is better than it was...it is not what I had expected. I had an OCD, which they drilled into the bone to bleed the joint to regenerate cartliage. One year later I am back to about every 30 steps or so having the same excrutiating pain and locking in the joint. I did everything that they said to do after my surgery. The surgery itself was not too bad...only about 1 hour as outpatient. Pain not too bad post op. Good luck on your surgery and I hope all goes well. pompomchicka21 06-06-2007, 07:38 PM thanks for the information...I hope yours get better LikeWow 06-14-2007, 05:53 PM Thanks everyone, umm im going in on 10th July im actually looking forward to it now (although that could be the £20 ive got to spend in HMV to get dvds to take with me = ]) pompomchicka21 06-15-2007, 12:01 AM I just had mh arthroscopy done this morning....its not bad so far. They didn't do the drilling they thought they were gonna do. I have a big flap of cartelidge that was partially attached that moved everytime i moved my ankle that supposdly why i had so much pain. They were gonna shave the bone, but he said my ankle was too little to get the tool in to do it...so he didn't do it. My doc said that its a 90% chance that this will have worked, which excites me. Um they told me that i could walk on it when every i feel like it...I walked on it a lil bit today but I'll probably be on crutches for a week or so so i dont mess anything up. So it wasn't bad so far...I'll let you know. Craig 06-15-2007, 08:14 AM Glad to hear it went well and you're doing ok Pompom! My ankle hasn't been getting any better, so I think I'm leaning more towards getting it done, though will probably wait til fall. Hope your recovery continues to go well. heinselrunner 06-24-2007, 06:21 PM I had AS on my ankle 10 days ago, after about 2 months in a boot, with no improvement. They removed the torn cartilage, cleaned out the scar tissue, and did microfracture on the exposed bone. My OS sent me home with a GameReady icing machine, which has really helped the pain. I'll be on crutches about 3 weeks, start PT in 4 weeks, and will slowly get back into my activities (ultramarathon running/soccer). My OS gave me about an 85% chance of full recovery, but it'll be about 6 months before I'll be free to participate in my sports. I have my fingers crossed! pompomchicka21 06-26-2007, 07:43 PM Well Good Luck with your recovery!!!!!! Keep us posted :) I am 12 post surgery and I'm doing pretty well. I'm not really walking with crutches anymore and have done 3 pt's already. The incisions stil hurt a bit and I have pain turing my ankle side to side and everyonce in a while when i turn it weird. But other than that I fell that I'm doing well. Lets just hope all the pain goes away, I would love to return to my normal activities soon! heinselrunner 06-26-2007, 09:51 PM Well, I saw my OS yesterday and I got my sutures out. Everything is looking good, but I'm NWB with crutches for another 2 weeks, then another 2 weeks PWB, still with the crutches. I see my OS then, and see where I go from there. I'm already really sick of the crutches! Hopefully, I'll get to start PT then, and get my body moving again. I'm not a very good couch potato. Glad to hear you're getting around better already. nikkiisshort 06-26-2007, 10:36 PM I have suffered from ankle problems for the past 9 years, so in November when I had completely torn my deltoid ligament complex and CFL, I decided to get it fixed once and for all. I had my left ankle scoped along with ligament repair about 3 months ago. It was really painful afterwards, but I'm healing very quickly from it. My advice is to elevate as often as you can and ice about 3 times daily to help with the swelling and pain. That's what I've been doing and the results have been amazing. moderator2 06-26-2007, 11:04 PM Please read the posting rules which explain that offering or asking off board contact is not permitted.
