Hey all! Just wanting to pass on some hi's and some summer wishes. I hope everyone is doing well. I had my second infushion last week. Everything was going fine until my little one picked up a bug. Darn kids and their germs. Long story short my wife phoned the MS clinic and they told me to get to the hospital. I was full of nothing but bile and had a high temperature (107) I could not keep anything down. I went to the hospital had four bags of saline. Some steroids and anti nausea meds right into the IV. I got out last night came home and slept the sleep of the dead.
Anyone on Chemo must avoid anyone that is sick. Your immune systemis down and if you get anything you get it hard. I think that another part of the problem was that we were having a heat spell. It was up around 28 degrees celcius. I am sure that the heat did not help. It has been good for my tomatos lol.
I am defintly doing better on the chemo. My doc said that I should not improve but I should stop getting worse. Me and my wife both thing that I am getting better. I have been able to stand up and even walk a few steps. I need to hang on to stuff to stumble around, but it feels good. I think I look better if the Music is on when I am walking. At least sometimes I shake to the music.lol
Sorry I have not posted alot but I am reading alot of the posts. My vision has really been afected by the heat, so it takes me awhile to read through the posts. Usually once I have done that I am too tired to respond My vision tests out at 20/20, but I can't see. does this happen to anyone else? (good thing I don't do ground transport anymore haha)
Later, Doug

I'm glad the chemo is working for you. And you're right about sick people especially those carrier monkeys. ;)
A good friend of mine went through chemo last year for breast cancer and if any of her grandkids so much as sniffed, their parents wouldn't let them go to her house. Sucked, but better safe than sorry. After all, it was only for a few months.
As for the vision thing, I deal with that too. I don't have 20/20 vision, but I do have days where my focus is just a little off. I also sometimes get this 'shaded' look. It can be a bright sun shining day, but to me it'll look like everything is in a shadow. Neuro says it's just part of MS.
It's nice to see that you have a real good sense of humor. It definitely is a must have for anybody dealing with this crazy disease.

Hey Doug. Just wanted you to know youve been on my mind and my thoughts are with you. I'm soo sorry to hear that you were so sick; however sounds like you are on the road to recovery. Im glad to hear it. You know, I just went to court over my stepkids- Im not even ON Chemo, but my step-kids mother KEEPS sending the kids to our home on weekends, even when they are REALLY ill- high temps, throwing up, she doesnt care. Im the built-in babysitter. We had to take out a court order that if the kids are sick ,she wont send them. In general, with MS, we get things faster and more severely then healthy people. I cant even imagine adding Chemo to the mix....
wish she could read your post. NO, on second thought, she is hoping for the worst when it comes to me. Its probably not a good idea! :)
Again, just wanted to send you my well wishes....take care and KEEP on KEEPING ON! Youre doing so well, and Im soo happy for you!
Hugs,
Nikki

Hi Doug,
So sorry to hear of your mishap. Now you had one mean high temperature. You are a very lucky man. Yes, my husband came down with a bad cold, I have him a mask to walk around in and I wore one too, refused to sleep in the same room and took the couch for a few days. I was fortunate not to catch his cold as I am on the same chemo as you are. Glad you home and to hear the great news that you are actually feeling better. Like your Dr mine has stated to me that the chemo just slows it down, however the Oncologist told me he has seen many people improve. My second infusion is set for June 28, I am hoping to see positive results too. Last time the nausea was very severe for me, I am going to ask for something this next tie. My eyesight from time to time also goes blurry, I wear glasses and keep cleaning them, but it is not the eyeglasses it is my eyes. But I do not have any pain associated with the blurring. I have however, developed these pains in my head from behind the lower earlobe across the back of my head to the other ear. This is something new and it is like a pressure type pain. Otherwise, I think I am feeling about the same, definitely not worse. I took have trouble walking, I use a walker, as I become very unstable at any time. My balance seems to be way off, I constantly wear my black and blue marks. Do you feel more tingling in your legs since the chemo, I do, hopefully this is good news. Take care and keep us updated.

Hey there NarLyB,
Thanks for the reply! Man sick people! lol We ae supossed to have 28 kids over next Friday for a birthday party for my Daughter. I think that I should probably run away for the day to the inlaws and ride a couch there. I am suppossed to be at my lowest point for immunity next week because of the chemo. It's my daughters half bithday. She was born Dec. 27, so we thought that it was a good idea to move her day so she could invite her friends. Who knew she had so many!
I hope your friend is doing well. It is not fun to battle any disease. My exes mom went through the chemo and mastectomy in 78 or 79 and is doing well today. Strong lady.
thanks for picking up on the humor. (I think that I might put some people off)this disease can take so much from you but, if you find you can laugh about stuff it makes it easier. I get down sometimes but I try not to let it hang around too long. I used to say things could be worse, but they kept getting worse so I stopped saying that. lol Really though things could always be worse.
thanks and take care! Doug
I won't let it take my funny bone.

Hi Sweet Doug! :)
You are too kind with your words...
As for the ex, yeah, I can only imagine if she faced something like this what would happen, the world as she knows it would come crashing down. I thank G_d every day that Im a strong person....and having dealt with this I have become so much stronger. I think that we really do learn about ourselves thru our illness....its a shame it takes things like this to really get to know ourselves, but I know for me, it was a learning experience.
The weather finally broke here for 48 hours, so today is a good day..however, tomorrow is supposed to be over 90 again. Im actually seeing my Neuro on Thurs morning. Ive been fighting eye problems, tingling issues and a host of other "normal" MS stuff and I am really sick and tired of feeling sick and tired. Im thinking I might do another round of Solu-Medrol, and I want to investigate the injectable steroid everyone is speaking of lately. I know nothing, other than what Ive read here, about it. Hoping he prescribes it, as it would simplify life so much if I didnt have to drag around a shunt and IV for 5 days! Somehow I have a feeling thats what Im facing....not a good thing for someone who is on the road, like me, to have to deal with!
You sound so much better. Im really glad to hear that. Ive been keeping up on you, following your progress- the high temp through me, I was really concerned, but it does sound like you are recovering well and it didnt leave any lasting damage. Thank Goodness!
Keep taking care of yourself Pal....Im thinking of you and sending you happy thoughts and healthy hugs.

Hi hayshe!
thanks for the kindness and thoughts. Take this as a cautionary tale. Be very carefull and pay attentiion to any changes good or bad and inform your doc. It could be an indicator of lots of things. Infection, virus or other.
I hope your infushion on the 28th goes well. Other than being in hospital with a bug and having MS I feel great!:blob_fire I walked farther than I have in a year today. My wife says I actually stood up straight. She forgot how tall I am. lol
It has been a weird day. I woke up with the flu thing still going. I had to make a run for the border did not make and thought that was the end of my day and really killed my hope. That lasted about 20 minutes then I found I could stand up. Quickly forgot about the bad of the day and went into being optimistic. That is so much better. This is really a hard thing to fight. So I decided to ride it!
If you get that sick to your stomach feeling take at leat some gravol. I am taking gravol and PMS-ONDANSETRON 8mg every 8 hours. I have not taken much, but it really works. I still have pills from the first treatment left. I won't suffer this time with feeling sick I will take the pills. My biggest problem is that I am a guy and try to muscle through the nausea. Duh don't do thatlol
The leg tingling has been huge. I have that! I have that! Feeling down there except for pain has been the usual. This is new. I can actually feel my legs. Is this a new thing for you as well?
I do get the head thing at the back of neck just below the skull. It's kind of like explosions and fireworks.b no pain though that I can connect to it.
On another note I had an almost pain free day yesterday. I only took pain meds at night before bed. that is something new as well.
You will be in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that everything goes as it should:) Hang in, Doug

Hi Doug, Thanks for the heads up on the medications. I will definitely ask my Dr for them. Wow, standing and walking, that is simply fantastic. Keep it going.
The tingling I have had for a long time along with the muscle spasms. Sometimes I cannot feel my feet. It comes and it goes, that is when I do my falling thing. I stopped driving about 2 years ago. The muscle spasms are bad expecially at night. I too take pain meds and muscle relaxors too.
The new thing I notice is sometimes I am slurring my words. Also, keyboarding my brain and my fingers are not in tune including the thoughts...they all sort of get mixed up. Do you have this?
Keep up the Great work, I am pulling for you...Stand up straight as your Mom has told you many years ago. Take Care, Lee Ann

Just keeping the update going. I thought I would tell everyone how bad I am.
I am a bad boy I mean. Last night at about 2:30 in the morning I got up and went for a little stroll. I walked (with my walker!) out the back door and down to the shed. It is about 110 feet to the shed. I did it at night so noone would see. hahahaha :p Today I might try and go see my truck. Poor thing has just sat for the last 2 years, just like me. It was nice to get out of the chair. The fatigue from walking is worth the pain. On another note I have not had any pain meds yet today!
I am taking these things as a definite good sign. Thanks for the posts and interest. You guys are great.
I had other things going on as well. I woke up this morning thought something was wrong. I lifted up my blanket looked down and yes it is true I am a boy. I had forgoten. lol I don't Know about anybody else but really I have not thought about sex since I was dx'd. Has anyone else forgot that they used to be a feeling sexual person? I could go on but this I thought was a good direction of which way I am headed.
Cheers to all!

Hi Doug, Congratulations on your new wonder. I too have sexual problem since being dx. As the foreplay continues, then the spasms in my legs do as well, with the pain, so then we discontinue. We have tried everything, but sex is not in store for us. Also, just don't seem to have the sex drive either...but we have lots of hugs and kisses. I am curious as well if others have this same trouble.
Keep on walking--results sound just great.. Take care, Lee Ann
