I had a discectomy/laminotomy on the morning of May 24th. The surgery was uneventful and I was able to go home at about 5:15 that same day. Sleeping the first night was very uncomfortable, but Advil PM helped immensely for the next couple of nights.
So far, I would call the surgery a success. 90% of the time, I have no leg pain at all. The other 10% of the time, there is a feeling of weakness, tingling or light aching. It is nowhere near the amount of pain I felt before the surgery.
I was very afraid of the surgery before having it. Now, I wouldn't be afraid at all to do it again. I was able to walk 2 1/2 hours after the surgery and walk about 2 miles a day now. I stopped taking pain-killers (except ibuprofen) the day after the surgery.
I go for my first follow-up appointment this Friday. Hopefully some of the bending/lifting/twisting restrictions will be lifted. If not, oh well. It's worth it to wait!
Thank you everyone for contributing to this board. I've learned a lot from you.
