Earlier today I was diagnosed with Chlamydia. I had the treatment.

I got tested purely as a precaution, I had NO symptoms apart from the creamy discharge and slight red patch on my helmet, which I dont believe are serious symptoms??

Given my weak symptoms what are the chances of me being infertile due to this infection?

And how long would people recommend I didnt have sex for, the doctor said a week until it goes away but I want to make sure its gone and I wont pass it on!!

Any help would be greatly received.....I am really worried I may not be able to have children.

Thanks

The severity of the symptoms doesn't have anything to do with whether or not you'll become infertile. Also, not everyone has symptoms, although males usually do more so than females. The infertility depends on how long it was left untreated before you were diagnosed. The longer it's left untreated the more likely it will cause infertility. For a more specific answer, you might want to check with your doctor. It sounds like you haven't had it very long and you got treatment quickly? As for sex, you shouldn't have it until you're completely done with your treatment, don't miss any doses. I don't know what the treatment is for it now, but back when I had it (about 20 years ago), I had to take tetracycline (antibiotic) four times a day (every six hours) for a week. Good luck. :)

This is the strange thing, I've had unprotected sex with four women......all of them unprotected on more than once occasion.

Three of them say they have all been tested after having sex with me and the other one was when I lost my virginity which was four years ago! But surely if i had caught it off her then the other girls after her would have had it??

What does that mean?!

Well, your being a guy, I'd say you definitely would have had some type of symptoms in a four-year time span. So, the first girl can obviously be ruled out. Did the other three come up positive for a STD when they got tested? If so, you might not want to sleep with them again. If you do, be sure to use a condom.

This is the problem.....they all tell me they tested negative for everything. I'm trying really hard to remember when I first started getting the discharge, but I can't!!

Basically what I want to know are my chances of being infertile given that I have not had any painful symptoms of the Chlamydia??

How about the fourth girl? Was she tested? It could have very well came from her. Basically, if you've only had sex with four people in your life, and all of them are claiming to be clean, somebody, somewhere is lying. This is not something one gets from a toilet seat! Generally, one starts to see symptoms one to three weeks after infection. Again, let me stress the severity of the symptoms does not determine whether or not you'll become infertile, the longer you go untreated, the higher the possibilty of infertility. I suggest you go back to your doctor and ask him/her for a pamphlet on STD's.

ok its just that my doc said that the chances of me being infertile are not very high if I did not have any painful symptoms

That's interesting because I've never heard of that. In the pamplet I was given, it said that infertility was more probable when it was left untreated. The guy I had sex with (boyfriend at the time) actually gave me two things (lucky me  ): chlamydia and trichamonas (sp.). Three weeks later I went and got treated. I was a 17-year old virgin at the time and very naive. I'm married now (not to the same guy) and my husband and I don't want children. I don't know if I'm fertile or not, but we use condoms just in case. I don't do well with birth control pills because of side effects.

Thanks for all your help. I've gone through days of worrying now and ive come to a point in my head where im just thinking if no one not even my doctor can tell how fertile i am then i cant worry about it and just deal with things if the time comes and im struggling to have children.

I had treatment on tuesday at about 4:30pm......the discharge from my penis has not gone yet, do you know when it is likely to or shall i ask my doctor? he also said that once i had had treatment i would not need to go and get retested, but for my own piece of mind i will

You're quite welcome. :) Like I said, when I did my treatment, it was for a week. I would wait a full week, if the discharge is still there, then see your doctor again.
