Hi everyone, I heard the news about Avandia but I am curious has anyone heard anything about Actos? I started taking it 3 months ago and my blood sugars have come down and my doctor is very pleased with the medication. He did tell me it was related to Avandia but doesn't seem to carry a lot of the same side affects. Thanks for your help.

I have only been taking it for about 3 weeks and it's done wonders for me. When I heard about that trouble with Avandia, I called my Pharmacist and he said while they are related, they have had no problems or concerns for the one I am taking. I am taking the Actoplus Met and he seems to think and believe that it is safe and should cause no concerns.

I am a major butt when it comes to side effects and I ask about every single one before I even take it... and I have read a bunch of articles on it online as well and have found no relation to the same side effects as the Avandia.

Like I said, I only started taking it about 3 weeks ago, but I did my homework on it for the first full week I was on it. So far I only notice a little of an upset stomach if I forget to eat before I take it and the infrequent headache, but nothing bad.

Not sure if this helps and maybe someone more experienced can help, but I did ask all of the questions of my Pharmacist, since he is the one that I trust most about drugs my family takes.

I got switched from Avandia today, $52 for Actos compared to $30 for Avandia, that sucks.

Part of me wonders if the whole Thiazolidinedione class of drug is safe. Out of the 3 marketed drugs in the class 1 has been withdrawn because of the side effects and 1 has a health warning because of the side effects. True, the withdrawn one whose name escapes me was because of major liver problems rather than heart ones but it just feels like the class as a whole can't do the job without causing serious problems to other areas. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if some study in the next few years finds problems with Actos.
