Hi,
I'm new to "HealthBoards.com.
I am 48 years old.
I suffer from cluster migraines and have been told that I will out grow them. Is this true? Please Post and let me know something.
Thanks,
iddawgissac:confused:

I don't know that one can grow out of migraines at the age of 48. There are too many different reasons that people get migraines from stress, environmental causes, neck or back problems, hormones and neurological problems. Until you narrow down what causes yours, it is hard to say if and when you will be rid of them. I see a Chiropractor once a month and that helps me keep my migraines under control as far as my spine is concerned. But, I get migraines for 4 different reasons. I tend to get them due to hormones (female issues) and not every month so it depends on the month. I can get them when I am stressed. I can get them if I strain my eyes for a long period of time and, I can get them when there is a drastic change in the barometric (sp) pressure outside. So, try to make note of what is going on around you, what you have done, what you have eaten, how you slept or how you were sitting when the migraines started. That might help you narrow down the underlying cause of your migraines so that you can put an end to them (if at all possible). I started getting migraines when I was in 7th grade and am not 34 so, as far as growing out of them is concerned, I just don't think that is a migraine cure. I would have to imagine I would have grown out of mine by now if that were the case. Sorry! I wish I could tell you that what you have been told is true. It may be. As for me, I am still waiting!

My best suggestion, besides making notes of what may be your cause(s), is to see a Chiropractor and see if he or she can help you. It might simply be that your spinal cord is out of wack. My three worst migraines were relieved within minutes of having an adjustment from my Chiropractor. And, 2 of them were migraines I suffered through for 3 days before seeing my Chiro so, I am a firm believer in the healing power of them in a spinal cord related migraine. They can't always help when the cause is environmental or hormonal. But, it is worth a shot!

Take care and keep in touch!

:dizzy: I did not think that was posible at my age but I had to ask the question. I also see a chiropractor about one a month also. It helps some but I still get them. I have yet to narrow it down as to what environmental conditions cause them. I personal feel that mine is due to stress more than anything else. I have an eighty-nine year old mother that lives with me and I hate to say it but I think that has a lot to do with them. She is not in the best of health. Please forgive my rantings but it help to get it out even if it is just typing them at a site.

It is very likely that yours are stress related. Even when you don't think you are stressed you can get a migraine. My worst migraine ever was just days before I was to move off to college. I was truly excited about it and had no idea I was actually stressed until the migraine hit.

So, my suggestion is to try to find a hobby, or even an exercise like Yoga to give yourself a bit of time today to work out some of your stress. It is amazing how helpful a little bit of time to yourself each day can be in getting rid of some of your stress. And, I know it isn't a guy thing to do but, it is helpful as you have already seen to keep a journal. If you can get the emotions out, it helps some. There is a lot to be said about bottling things up and the toxic way it effects our bodies.

Take care and keep in touch!

:D As soon as I get though here I will do a search for a "Beginning Ti Chi" DVD and see what happens. The only problem I have is finding the time to actually do it.
I'll let you know how it works out.
Thanks for the suggestion. Your an

I hope you find the right way to get your stress out! You might also consider something a little aggressive in a more positive way like Boxing with a punching bag. You never know if maybe you just need to punch the snot out of something that can't feel anything! Heheheh! You never know! There are tons and tons of things that are therapeutic in the most unexpected ways! Even just being able to sit or lay down in a relaxing chair for ten minutes with your eyes closed, taking deep breathes and thinking of something relaxing or if you can, thinking of nothing at all, can be very helpful in ridding yourself of stress.

Take care and please keep in touch! I hope you feel better soon!

I've tried the quiet thing and it does not work for me. I have a Tai Chi video and while I was doing it it worked. But I am afraid to play it now its old. The last time I played a video it took for ever to clean the V. C. R. I have a DVD on order now on Tai Chi. Just waiting for it to come in. I keep in touch and let you know how I make out.

I received the DVD on Tai Chi. My migraines have almost stopped and when I do get one it is not nearly as bad as it was before. So it seems to be working. I plan on keeping it up and will let you know what happens from here.:D
