DH and I were not going to try to conceive for another 6 months or so. No BC besides condoms and no accidents that I know of but stranger things have happened. I haven't been on the pill in 3 years.
I am about a week late and feel like my period should come, it just isn't.

You can take one now. Since you are a week late, it should be accurate.
Condoms are only 98% effective when used perfectly, so that means even when used perfectly 2/100 women will become pregnant.
If the test is negative, wait a few days and test again (first pee of the day is best) and if it's negative too, see your doctor.
