View Full Version : Three weeks post-op

I am almost three weeks post op. The dr moved my heel over to the center of my foot, repaired my fibula so that it would not slam into my heel any more, repaired my ligaments and tendons and removed a neroma and burried my nerve in a bone.

I had a block on my left side before the surgery. The said that it would help with pain after. They gave me pain medication and told me to take it a dinner time before the block wore off. Of course like an idiot, I did not take it because I was affraid of the oxicontin. They also gave me norcor for break thru pain.

I woke up at 1:30 in the am and started to feel the pain. I rushed to take the meds - TO LATE. At about 3:30am I was about to go to the ER because of the pain. Boy, it was hard to breath and I started sweating. The meds kicked in about 4:30am.

I don't think the osteotomy hurt so much as the fibula. The had to move it and boy did that hurt afterward.

Anyway, I had the stitches out yesterday and my foot looks straight. The Dr. said that he thinks the surgery was going to make me feel much better. I hope so.

I should be happy. I have been depressed for the past three days. I just don't want to talk to anyone. It is worse when someone tries to cheer me up. Probably because its summer and I wish I could be out in the yard and probably becuase I am feeling sorry for myself. I mean all the things that I did for people before my surgery to help them out. You think they would call or something. Not to mention that I sprained my back and rotator cuff.

Anyway, I need to snap out of it. Thanks for listening to the crab LOL

And another thing, when they sent my wheelchair back, They did not install a margarita cup holder. Bummer.

Hey!! Remember me?

Hehe. Congrats on making it through the first 3 weeks!! I hope everything gets easier on you. I remember how it was last year, when everyone was going out and I was stuck in the house, in bed! :( I feel for you! It's almost been a year since my surgery, (June 9th) can you believe that??? I am doing fine now and hope that by this time next year you will be able to feel as okay as I do. Take Care and update frequently, I remember you. I still lurk on here often and look forward to reading on how you are doing.

-Britt

PS I hope someone gets on that Margarita Cup Holder for you!

wow.no cup holder...time to go on strike. talk about adding insult to injury. I'm glad you made it to the 3 week mark. I'm glad everything looks like it is where it is suppose to be. I'm not usually on this board anymore. Just thought I would take a look see and see if any of my old pals were here. glad to were, but not that you had to be here...you know what I mean. I'm usually on the rsd board or pain management. It will get better. just when I don't know.

Britt. I do remember you. I am glad that you are feeling better. You were the one that did shopping after a surgery. You walked to the store didn't you?

Lostmary: Are you feeling better. You have been thru a lot.

Wtwct...Oh, How could I have missed your posting?? I am SO sorry! I will whisk that virtual Marguerita over to you right away! I am still taking pain meds but at this point, the marguerita sure does sound appealing!! I still have that exercise video...still sealed in the package....I finally got a VCR hooked up. I'm not quite sure why I didn't order it in DVD format.....maybe because I would not have had an excuse to have not watched it...hahaha!! I will take it out tonight. I am sure Margaret Richard would love to see me exercising!! OK...it's out and staring me in the face for tomorrow! I hope you start to feel better soon. I have had my fair share of depression! I know exactly how you feel! The not being able to drive is enough to send anybody to the looney bin! I have a bright yellow cast on to remind me of the sunshine even when I cannot get outside! I would love to hear from you! I'll hold my glass up to better tomorrows!! Feel better soon....Sophie:angel:

Dang - no cup holder!?!? Guess I'll just have to pour the tequilla right into your mouth and shake you up by spinning your w/c... All joking aside, I am glad the surgery is finally done and that initial results look so good. Now the hard part, eh? Don't forget that the drugs can bring on depression and anxiety which may be part of the trouble. If your buddies aren't stopping over then call them and tell them you need company. They probably don't want to bother you or think you are doing fine since they haven't heard otherwise (a lot of follks are kind of like men - you have to tell them what you need from them).

So, what contraption are you locked up in? Cast, boot, splint, ORIF? Let us know so we can give decorating advise;) How are the crutches/chair working for you? Past the instant pain stage of having your leg anywhere but elevated? That was a bad time for me so I home things are getting a bit better. As for the ER visit, some of us just never seem to learn from others mistakes, eh - maybe we should just just geta big neon sign to pass around:D

Love and hugs (and lots of liquor and salt)

Yes, the exercise tape. I thought that it would make me feel better to use the exercise tape. I found it yesterday and worked out my lower body.

I figured that my upper body is taking a beating and I would give it a break.

I took some pain meds last night. I try not to over do it, but I needed one last night.

Yep, no cup holder. That's funny. Picture the wheelchair spinning. Should I wear a bib?

I am wearing a boot. I have had two casts but the dr wants me to try to move it up and down.

At least you still have your sense of humour :). Love the maragarita idea!

Foot problems really test us mentally. It is good to hear that your doc is happy with the surgical result. I think I remember us comparing doctors some time ago. Who eventually did your recent surgery?
