View Full Version : New to testing

Hi everyone...

I haven't been here for quite awhile, but have started testing and have a question. I have a one touch ultra mini monitor. I don't take any meds yet. Anyway, I've been trying to figure how foods affect me and it's been going ok so far. But tonight I had a result of 188 and then about 15-20 minutes later I decided to recheck it and it was 149. I know you are not suppose to scrape the blood and etc when you apply it - and I don't think I did, but I am new to this and my technique might not be the greatest, so I was wondering if maybe the first test could have been wrong or could my blood sugar have dropped that fast - I really didn't do anything like exercise or anything to make it go down...so anyway any thoughts on that?

I can't judge for your situation, I have noticed a couple times where my bg has dropped more than I expected within a half hour. I don't know if that is usual for me though.

I also was just thinking that the type of carbs you eat could possibly have huge drops...my understanding is simple carbs will give you a quick boost but drop away pretty quickly at some point. I'm sure someone with more experience can better comment though. I'm still pretty new to this.

That drop is not unusual. I've seen mine drop from 170 to 110 in half an hour. It varies probably depending on what you ate.
