Hi Maria,
I read your post in another thread that you just started an SSRI and had trouble at first.
I also see that you are doing better now.

I just started with nortriptyline, which isn't an SSRI, but an antidepressant anyway. I know everyone reacts differently, but how many days did you feel badly? I am on a very low dose due to my body being sensitive to most types of meds, but am still feeling tired, shaky, need to eat or symptoms get worse, dizzy-although not too bad but gets better after I eat, just a general feeling tired, can't take a lot of commotion etc.
I was encouraged by your post and glad that you are feeling better. Just wondering how long that took and how intense were your symptoms?
Thanks for any support.

hi wannarun,
I felt awful as you know,my symptoms made me feel like i was going mad! I was very aggitated, nervous and fiddgety. I didnt want to do anything but sit quietly, i had palpitations,my dizziness went through the roof, i was crying ALL the time. Was saying to my mum that i dont want to live like this anymore, god it was awful. Well how glad i am that i stuck with it! I am on day 10 now and feel fab!!!! Not 100% how i was but great in comparison to how i have been. Its like the dizzies are still there kind of but im more able to deal with it and shrug it off. I just feel at peace with my self. I would recommend you stick with them and fight through the nasty side effects, you will feel better. I was at the docs again yesterday to discuss how i am getting on,and he was pleased with my progress. We discussed going up to 15mg (am on 10mg),and he said that if i feel ok for time being on 10 mg stick with it until you feel differently. I wish i went on them sooner,as the feeling i am having now is great!I just feel more relaxed and peaceful. Let me know how you get on.

Hi Maria,

Glad to hear you are feeling so much better. I know precisely what you're talking about when you say you are more ble to shrug the dizziness off. It's like you regain the ability to focus on other more interesting matters in your life and forget the dizziness for a change. It's a real holiday.

I found that on 10 mg I initially felt a lot better but would still drop into bad patches here and there, then bounce back for a while. In the end it wasn't consistent. When I went to 15 mg, things were very consistent and the dizziness nearly vanished after a few months. Keep your fingers on the pulse and, if in the next two months you think you can do better, think about bumping it up. But it will be great if 10 mg is all you need. We're all different.

Wannarun: I'm not sure how things pan out on a tricyclic. But I imagine there is an adjustment period just like most of these antidepressants. Definitely try and hang in there for a couple of weeks on a lower dose and move it up later if you think the time is right.

Best...Scott
