I don't want to build up muscle, just tone and lose a little fat....and I really enjoy using this every other morning (it's a weight machine). So can I lift weights every day? Or should I stick with theory of resting for 48 hours in between?
Thanks

If you don't want to build muscle, don't lift weights. However, if you are using very light resistance and keeping a steady pace (making it more of an aerobic exercise than anaerobic), you will be less inclined to need so much recovery time. I wouldn't do it *every* day, but allow for some recovery time and maybe go running every couple days instead.

Well it's not that I don't want to build muscle, but my main priority is toning.
Right now I lift every other day 4 reps of 30. I'm still new so I can't lift very much, 10 lbs for arms and legs, except the pull downs I use 15 lbs.
I use to run 3-4 miles every day, but got out of the habit when I went back to work. Now I just can't get back into it. I feel so lazy http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/frown.gif

Most of what I've come across suggests that you would still need to take a day between workouts. However, you could either find some other form of working out to "fill the void" on days you don't use your total gym, or you could consider alternating. Do upper body one day, lower the next, and then alternate. You'd get to use it every day, but would still give each set of muscle groups a day between workouts. Perhaps you could use every other day to develop other kinds of fitness. Something like yoga or tai-chi might round out your fitness regimen while letting you do something every day.
