I'm pretty skinny, but am looking to lose a few pounds (about 10) for more muscle definition. What can you suggest that I eat? I know that I'm supposed to avoid carbs. So, I was thinking - more fruits and vegetables, and cut out a lot of bread, but I hear that some fruits and such tend to have quite a bit of carbs, also. So, what can you suggest for me?? Thanks.

first, you don't need to avoid carbs completely, just certain carbs. sweet things [like fruit], and processed starchy carbs [white bread, potato chips, other pre-packaged "instant" junk] won't help you lose weight. for carbs i usually eat things like oatmeal, whole wheat all natural bread, certain cereals, and green vegetables.
some other suggestions:
NUTS [one of the best foods a person can eat], fish, any non-fried lean meat, cottage cheese, eggs whites, protein bars, protein shakes, water. my cupboard's kind of empty right now so that's all i can come up with. do a search of this message board and you will probably find a ton more.
if in doubt, just stay away from anything fried, and anything with a lot of sugar or saturated fat. also choose natural foods over anything processed.

Thanks for all of your suggestions. http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif The only other question I have is what type (brand) of protein bars and protein shakes would you suggest I try? Thanks again!
