prolab is a very good, high quality company. i use their creatine and glutamine products.
many ppl are getting away from commercial gainers. i use them years ago to go from 125 to 180 but now i know better. they are really just tubs of sugar. its not good nutrition.
what many of us are doing now is making our own gainers. we grind up some oatmeal to use as a good complex carb source. add either whey or milk as a source of protein. then either olive oil, flax oil or natty pb as a source of fat. then add something like splenda for taste.

I use N-large and I think it's a great product. Although I would suggest anything that says it's a "weight gainer" is very misleading. Real food will put the weight on you but the N-large is a great mix of protein and carbs that really help out a person if taken immediately after a good workout.

Well, I hate to disagree, but I have to. You should wait an hour after your workout for your recovery shake. All that intense exercise creates a great Growth Hormone spike during the first hour after exercise. GH is the whole reason we work out. It makes you bigger, stronger, and leaner. Then take your sugary creatine recovery shake spiking your insulin to store the creatine better. Why wait? Insulin impairs your release of GH.

Thats all fine, but human growth hormone isn't produced directly after training. It's only released during deep sleep. Post work out, cortisol levels are elevated which causes muscle catabolism. Spiking your insulin levels stops and regresses the cortisol spike.

Dietary supplements affect the anabolic hormones after weight-training exercise. 1994
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=PubMed&list_uids=8175597&dopt=Abstract
To examine the effect of carbohydrate and/or protein supplements on the hormonal state of the body after weight-training exercise, nine experienced male weight lifters were given water (Control) or an isocaloric carbohydrate (CHO; 1.5 g/kg body wt), protein (PRO; 1.38 g/kg body wt), or carbohydrate-protein (CHO/PRO; 1.06 g carbohydrate/kg body wt and 0.41 g protein/kg) supplement immediately and 2 h after a standardized weight-training workout. Venous blood samples were drawn before and immediately after exercise and during 8 h of recovery. Exercise induced elevations in lactate, glucose, testosterone, and growth hormone. CHO and CHO/PRO stimulated higher insulin concentrations than PRO and Control. CHO/PRO led to an increase in growth hormone 6 h postexercise that was greater than PRO and Control. Supplements had no effect on insulin-like growth factor I but caused a significant decline in testosterone. The decline in testosterone, however, was not associated with a decline in luteinizing hormone, suggesting an increased clearance of testosterone after supplementation.
The results suggest that nutritive supplements after weight-training exercise can produce a hormonal environment during recovery that may be favorable to muscle growth by stimulating insulin and growth hormone elevations.

FYI, growth hormone is released periodically, all day long. The greatest amount is during sleep, but the second greatest is 30 to 60 min post exercise.
