Hi, I'm new to HealthBoards (and to message boards in general) so forgive me if I'm not doing this right :) I wanted to ask everyone out there who has BP II if they wanted to tell their story for a book I'm writing. Of course no real names or anything! My story is in the book: it took about 45 years until I got the correct diagnosis and there was a lot of pain, confusion, bad choices, poor finances, not writing (I'm a writer by occupation) or writing for someone else because I was too afraid to write for myself. My mania usually displays itself as ANXIETY, with a captial A. Now that I have the right diagnosis, support, and med combination, I'm doing great! And I'm writing my own book! Is there anyone with BP II, or who is living with someone who has BP II that would like to "talk" to me? Thank you all for reading.

Hi,
Just be careful with your post - one of mine got deleted previously for mentioning my occupation. We're only allowed to act as peers on this board... you may want to edit your post before it may be deleted by the moderators....

Good luck with the writing,
Nut.

One doctor told me I have BP2 - but now I just switch to another doctor so it could change for all I know. But for your project.

Observed the other posts that others put up. I come to this site a lot to read the posts sometimes post something myself. But I find it to be a good release at times.

:)

Thanks for writing me. I think this board will be a good support. May I ask you why the doctor diagnosed you as having BP II? What made him/her think it was I instead of II?

Thanks. I am using this for support, too, and I'm a regular person, but I do want to talk to people who have BP II. Any suggestions?

I was originally diagnosed with Depression when I was fifteen in my Freshman year in high school. I was given Zoloft which made me manic, thus the diagnosis of Bipolar II/NOS became clear. The reason I was dx'ed BP II was because my swings weren't as self-destructive and grandiose as the BP I. After two-and-a-half years, three pdocs, six tdocs, and one hospitalisation in mid-March, I'm still not stable. I'm up and down consistently, but I hope stability is in the future. Right now I'm on Lamictal (400mg.), Klonopin (1.5mg.), and Seroquel (400mg.). In the past, I've been on Abilify, Ativan, Geodon, Gabitril, Ambien for sleep (made me manic, though)...and I think that's it. For a while, it seemed that I was stable on 200mg. of Lamictal, 15mg. of Abilify, 1mg. of Klonopin, and 1mg. of Ativan, but it all went to pieces during the school year (I'm a junior) because of school stress, which is why I ended up in the hospital. Ummm...not sure what else you want.

Hi, why did they think that you had BP II just because you had mania from the anti-depressants? Is that what one of the BP II characteristics? For me, the mania came as anxiety--and the docs kept giving me anti-anxiety medication, which is why I wasn't getting better. I'm stable now, and taking pretty much the same meds as you, except I'm also taking trileptal and 2 anti-depressants, wellbutrin and prozac (as a trigger). I hope you can get stable, sounds like you are on your way. Do you still get hypomanic episodes? I do. Every day I have to "take my temperature" and see how my meds cocktail is going.

Well, they assumed I was BP when I had the hypomanic swings after the AD, but they didn't know immediately which one I had. Finally, after a while, they decided I was BP II/NOS with Ultra-radian cycling, which is a faster version than Rapid Cycler. My episodes aren't as severe as BP I, therefore they dx'ed me BP II. I can swing multiple times a day so that's why I'm ultra-radian. I see a tdoc regularly as well as a pdoc. I still experience hypomania, but most of it is "fun" because I'm carefree and all. I know at some level that mania is bad, but I enjoy it while I am because it's so exhilarating. I also have depressive swings, which I've experienced more lately because of stress as the school year winds down...too hectic for me to handle.
