View Full Version : How long does it take therapy to work?

I know it's very much a "how long is a piece of string" question, but roughly how long should i expect to have to wait before beginning to feel the benefits of therapy. I've been having psychodynamic therapy once a week (and sometimes more) for 8 months now, and I am getting frustrated due to lack of progress, even though I have been putting effort into my sessions.

You guys are normally very good with your words of encouragement :) - I'm just feeling very lost, and seem to be coming down from one of my "ups", which I won't call manias or hypomanias since neither I nor my tdoc or pdoc can work out if that's what they are.

Sometimes i think we do make progress but for some reason we don't always see it. So perhaps you have and just haven't realized it yet. I know with meds it kind of can be the same way one day you just don't see that things are much easier to bare then what they had been. Sort of can sneak up on ya. So hang in there and continue the therapy and continue the sessions. In time I think you will realized that you have learned and grown much as a person. How much time I think depends on you. So keep up the hard work for it will pay off in the future and probably already has started just in not so big ways.
