Could someone tell me please! say if your a person tht isnt diabetic, and you drink a bottle of coke or something! should your glucose level go high or stay the same?
i heard tht it should stay the same because your pancreas will produce insulin the keep the sugar levels down !! is this true?

Thanks for the help!

It will go up while your pancreas has a chance to normalize things, but not much, then it will go back down. I think it would go up to like 130.

Blondy's right...even a non-diabetic's blood sugar will go up in response to eating carbs (and there are a LOT of carbs in regular soda), but it wouldn't go up much beyond 130-140, and it would come down again much sooner than it would in a diabetic person.

She took the test about 30 mins after! Also i had a sandwhich to eat!lol
I have noticed that i am thirsty all the think carry a bottle of water around with me everywhere.

Maybe you want to do another test, after eating something and washing your hands. Having sweet stuff on your hands can the distort the result.

My endo told me that it would be really hard to get a normal person's blood sugar to go over 8 mmol/l, no matter what you feed them. If your blood sugar really went up to 14 mmol/l, it needs to be checked out by a doctor.

14 was roughly the number that I was diagnosed with, although that was a fasting test not 30 mins after eating. Washing your hands before a test is a good idea. The fact that you are thirsty is another sign of possible diabetes. Definitely go to a doctor. Even though diabetes sucks, it's better to know and get it under control rather than wait until it causes problems and then treat it. You may also be fine, either way, wouldn't you rather know?

Kd,
Wouldn't it be important to check after two hours to see if the Blood Glucose level went down too? I'm confused about whether it's still diabetes if the level raises high at 1 hour than goes back to normal at 2. Would it still be causeing damage? I've read that everyone's blood sugar goes up after eating pure sugar. A person would never know then because we are told to test only after two hours. Could someone please explain?

The basic fact is that a "normal" person should never get a reading that is 14/252. A reading that high means that there is something that isn't working like it should and the most obvious cause would be diabetes. Even something like 8/144 isn't normal if it happens on a regular basis.

Somebody whose body is reacting in a normal way will generally have a glucose level of less than (roughly) 6/120 at all times. Of course eating a lot of simple sugars in a very short period of time could spike it higher because of the time it takes for that kind of stuff to raise glucose levels vs the time the body takes to lower glucose levels, but even so it shouldn't get that much higher.

Also, if a doctor tells you to only test 2 hours after eating, question the logic because it's not great. Personally, I've never been told to only test 2 hours after eating. As long as you have the means to test, the more you do test the better you will know what kind of pattern your glucose levels take.
