I used to be overweight a year about a year ago(BMI 27) but I slimmed down and got in good shape, but I still have the boobs that were on me when I was overweight. What should I do to get rid of them. My BMI is 22 now

bro i got the same problem i dunno what to do about it. I been running etc. and losing weight but they are still there it sucks man...peeps on here say you can only get rid of it by surgery i dunno if i'd go that far tho. I think if u toned your chest maybe do some chest exercises they could get harder and it would look more manly

Hey how old are you two? "Man boobs" is a normal condition (I wouldn't even call it that) that 1/3 males get. It's really called gynecomastia.

It usually occurs in males in there teen years and usually goes away on its one, though it can take years.

When you go through stages of puberty they usually begin to diminsh because that when your bodies create more testosterone.

It's totally nothing to worry about.

I would say that, without a doubt, your boobs are due to to the way you are blatantly ripping off the big lebowski...

There are two main types of gynecomastia: true gynecomastia and pseudo-gynecomastia. In cases of True Gynecomastia, breast tissue is composed of both fat and glandular tissue, whereas with Pseudo-Gynecomastia breast tissue is composed solely of fat.

Because your breasts (man boobs) didn't decrease significantly in size with weight loss, I'd say they are probably made of quite a bit of glandular tissue.

A couple methods for reducing them exist. One is oral medication known as aromatase-inhibitors (which block estrogen from its receptors in the body). The other, although much more drastic, is plastic surgery. If oral medication does not cure them and they do not go away on their own, plastic surgery is your last option.

i thought decline and dips fixes the man boobs?

netviper13

Nope, it's actually often the opposite. For gynecomastia that won't go away from weightloss, developing the pectoral muscles will often make the "man boobs" stick out even more.

If it's all just fatty tissue though, a good cardio and weightlifting regimine will often take care of the problem. With the original post, however, weightloss didn't affect the tissue, which means it's most likely glandular in nature.

Strengthens and tones the pectoral muscles.

what is the name of the oral medication? And how much is it to buy?

The two big ones are Nolvadex (generic form is Tamoxifen) and Femara (generic form is Letrozol). If you're thinking you need treatment, you should first talk to an endocrineologist.

what about pointed nipples. i have a tone body and i run about 45 miles a week, and i actually have very little body fat, but my nipples stick out like pyramids, and the area around them. i tried workin out and chest exercises but they dont work. i do every kind i can find for the past year, and my chest is nicely shaped, but it only makes them stick out farther. would any medication work? what about the ointment yohimburn?

I know plastic surgery can easily take care of that with almost no visible scarring, but I'm not sure if medicine can or not. You should see a doctor who is knowledgable in this area.

DO NOT DO INCLINE BENCH PRESS it will give your chest a sloped look that is near impossible to make look square again I would reccomend doing flat or incline flies to help you condition

Why push to failure, when you could press to success

Probably because it's actual breast tissue and not fat. You can lose the fat, but the tissue has to be surgically removed.

go_da_doggies

is there a way to find out if its fat or excess tissue? I am 16 years old and I remember a few years ago I went to the doctors because I had lumps under my nipples and they hurt to touch and the doctor said that it is common for men to experience this at my age i was about 13. Does that mean they'll go or am I stuck with em? How much is surgery?

i am a 18, and i have had the problem since i was 13. ive done everything and i pretty much gave up hope. i run track and am very toned and muscular, my arms, back, legs, abs and chest. they have to be to run, and i would be very happy with the way i looked if it werent for my pointy nipples. i have one of the best looking bodies at my school, but i were big clothing and rarely take my shirt of in public. i am the only one on my team that runs with his shirt on. so final i went to the doctor to see if there is ANYTHING i could do, and he told me that it was just extra breast tissue under the nipple and the area surrounding it. the only thing he told me i could do is have surgery, and that would cost around $4,000!!!!! (believe me, i asked) so now, i just gave up on the hope and started excepting it. certain days, like after going to the gym, it isnt as noticable, but i am just goin to wait until the price drops a lot!

$4000 without insurance sure, but you should check to see if insurance would cover it. I'm having the surgery this month, and we're only paying for like $500, insurance is covering the rest.

There has to be a better way besides surgery. If someone knows, please post.

Well sometimes they naturally go away, and there are some oral medications you can take that regulate hormone levels and work for some people. Other than that surgery is the other option.

Hey! Im new but here we go...

You guys seem really smart and all so can u guys please help me out (lamen terms please =))

Im 15 (almost 16) and I used to be pretty tubby (with man boobs). Since then I kinda grew to 6ft2 and slimmed down. But i still got man boobs! All my friends joke about it and stuff. I do water polo and by next season I wanna be able to walk around without covering my tits. Anyway, I know you say teenagers grow out of them and stuff, but im really worried. I dunno if i really lost weight, just that I grew real tall, is there any excercies, push-ups or something that I can do, or foods not to eat? Please help! Thanks a lot!

Bad news. Insurance won't cover this type of surgery since it falls into the "cosmetics" category. Its the same thing with dental work. They won't cover implants or most other types of cosmetic work.

So if you're planning on having the surgery done on your breasts in the future, be prepared to pay for it out of your own pocket.

------------------

P.S.: I forgot to mention that there are certain exceptions. I think one of them is there has to be a proven medical need for the procedure or something like that. Most insurance companies are very picky about it.

Eat less.

Walk a lot.

Do crunches.

Do dead lifts.

Continue for 3 months.

Samul:

I experience the exact same thing. I am 24, 6'2, and 230. I just recently started running and working on my chest with flat and decline bench as well as push ups. I am trying to loose the fat in my chest and only look firm and how i want while working out and shortly thereafter. Im going to stick with my routine for as long as I can and try to get down to 210 and have a firm chest.

More testosterone is a bad thing unless you're taking medication to regulate estrogen.

What happens is that you get more testosterone but then the pituitary gland which regulates hormones levels senses too much T-level in the blood and shuts down production of natural testosterone from the testicles- so ultimately true T-levels drops below normal. Testosterone counters the effect of estrogen (which males also have) so if the T- level becomes too-low, the estrogen there is begins to effect things like breast tissue.

You'd think since having a lump in ur breasts could be a cancer risk that your insurance would cover the surgery to get them removed. No??

I am only 15 years old and I started weight lifting when I was 13, I used to be a little over 200 lbs and as long as I can remember I always had a gut and boobs. I always thought it was just because I was fat but when I joined the wrestling team when I was 13 I realized that all of the other fat kids on the team kind of just had saggy boobs that just rolled over their guts. Mine don't. Mine aren't that big but they're noticable because they are round and they don't just sag down. Well I started weight lifting more and now I am 5'9" and I weigh 185 lbs. I'm not that fat anymore I have a 32/34 waist size. I still have man boobs though so when I started benching again my pecs got really big because I went from benching 140 to benching 220 in a couple of months and now my boobs are pushed up even more by my pecs.

Does anyone think it is something I should really worry about? or should I just do more cardio and try to lose more weight? or does anyone think I need to talk to my doctor about this? I am only 15 so I am guessing that maybe they will just eventually go away but I'm not sure.

im 6ft, 189lbs and 13% bady fat. just reading this forum has made me feel much better, knowing that it aint just me that has this problem! i used to ask people how to tone my chest area and they always told me do more chest stuff, eat less, do more cardio workouts blah blah blah! it dont work! it is a condition that i you gotta live with unless like some people have said it goes away the older u get or you have surgery. iv actually had surgery and iv still got them (i cnt imagine what they'll look like if i didnt have surgery) and now iv got small scars under my chest that show up coz im quite fair skinned. my mates ask me what it is and i normally change the subject or tell them something like its scars from an accident.... i still havent decided if it was worth it or not, scene as i have scars now. they tone up after a workout but then go back back to looking like pointed man tits :( Now do will this medication work?

I was muscular all my life. Played football in HS. Always been active. Yet, around my 44 birthday and gradually, I start gaining weight in the abdomen and under my arms and in my breast. Now, I'm 52. I'm like how did I get these breast? They want go away. When i loose weight they seem more pronounced. I just look at it like this is where my body fat distributes. And, that is exactly what explains it. I'm glad it occured when I'm old. I couldn't take the joking that teenagers do. As a teen i was never overweight.

I have thought about plastic surgery but afraid it would grow back. Would they grow back if i had the fat taken out? Does anyone know the answer to that? Also, I do not want to pay exhorbant prices it ain't worth it.

your not the only one cursed with these man tits, i started getting man boobs when i was like 12 yrs old and all my friends used to tease me because i never really noticed until people started to give me titty twisters and so forth, i was so embarrased that the the nipples were just soo damn point over the years it grew bigger and bigger like a curse and they still havent gone away recently over the last year i started excersing and it has helped relax the frustration but the thing is im not fat im a average if not below average guy, im tall and lanky with these hugs breast just there, now i try to cover them up as much as possible wearing tanktops into the pool (i dread when the time comes) im afraid to take off my shirt in public escpically infront of females, my self confidence has gone down the drain in the past years, i even wore a tanktop during my first time engaging in sexual intercourse, all i suggest to you is dont turn out like me start working out young check out sites on the internet about "GYNECOMASTIA" the scentific name for male boobs and i wish you the best of luck

Dumbell pullovers across a flat bench helps to 'pull-up' and tighten your chest.

You might want to look at how hard you are actually working when you workout. A lot of times people ask what they're doing wrong, or what drastic measures they can take to change their physique when it really comes down to the fact that they aren't working hard enough.

This is something that took a long time for me to realize. I'd go up to the weight room, and I would push myself, and I did make some gains--but not what I wanted. Then I realized that to produce significant change in my physique, simply working out wasn't enough. You really have to kill yourself up there--but don't injure yourself. ;)

One workout program I read about, tried and don't particularly like (but do respect), pointed out that a good workout will have two key characteristics: A lot of hurt, and a lot of suck.

I've never considered surgery, but if I was in a position where I felt I was approaching a last resort, I would first evaluate how badly I want it, and what exactly I AM doing to get it before I go under the knife.
