A few years back I went on the south beach diet it worked wonderfully and I lost the 10 pounds I needed to and very quickly. I felt great following this for about 10 months then I started to have a few digestive problems and became lactose intolerant. I only gained aa few pounds of weight back but I tried to reintroduce carbs again 3 years later I am still trying. For some reason when I eat them I swell up like crazy for days and my stomach bloates right out. Does anyone have any experience with this. I have been to the dr a handful of times and have had lab test done and all is fine. Two years ago I had allergy testing done and again all was great. I am going next week for some more testing just to see if I am missing something. I am afraid that I have done something to my system mabie the digestive enzymes.... Please any advice would be great!!!

what type of carbs are you trying to re-introduce?

wheat and dairy. I make my own whole wheat bread or multi grain bread. I also make my own yogurt. I feel really bad if i have a sandwich . I have tried just 1 piece but after adding a piece a day it seems to get worse. Yogurt makes my tummy burn and bloat where as the wheat makes me sleepy and bloated with bad water retention... Any advice, I have been to the dr she thinks the diet may have messed up my digestive enzymes has anyone heard of this???

I've never heard of a lower carb diet messing up anything... Maybe you were always sensitive to these foods but didn't realize it until you stopped eating them?

Can you manage things like Oatmeal?

Sorry it took so long to get back to you but I did have allergy testing done and I am allergic to wheat, dairy and soya so it wasn't the diet it was the lack of these allergy causing foods. I seem to be fine with gluten so for now oatmeal is fine, he said just eat more rice for carbs. I am so glad to know what was at hte route of this evil. My doc said so many people are allergic and are misdiagnosed with IBS when actually it is food allergies and a few simple diet adjustments and you would be fine. Amazing what are bodies do.
