Hi,
I've had kidney stones for the past 8 years and after muliple lithotripsy's and one surgery through the back, I've always had pieces left. About 1-2 years ago they put me on Potassium Citrate & HCTZ which is supposed to help prevent the stones I had from getting bigger and prevent new stones from forming. When I went back for my yearly visit 2 months ago the stones had gotten larger and I think there are more. I had a lithotripsy last month that barely cracked any of the stones and have another litho next week. My stones are also at the bottom of the kidney.
Has anyone else been on the potassium citrate and/or HCTZ and has it worked for you?
Thanks

Thanks Allie. It's been hard to tell if it is working but I thought maybe I need to be stone free to really tell.
Maybe next weeks litho will break these up although then I'll be proping up my kidney in the hopes of getting them to move out.

I have been taking Potassium Citrate/ Magnesium blend produced under the name of Theralink. It has slowed down the number of stones I produce.

The dr just suggested I start taking TheraLith XR. Is all this stuff the same, just with different labels? I've got to start buying it and I am wondering if it must be TheraLith XR...

They are all close but not the same. Theralith XR you need approval from the doc before they start sending it to you. I have had a lot of success with it. I still get stones but they are smaller and less frequent.

Thanks everyone! There's no one else I know who is on medication for kidney stones so I wasn't sure if what I was taken was really working.
Hopefully the litho next week will work otherwise I should start charging the stones rent for how long they've been in there :)
