I've recently started a casual weight loss regimen (restricting myself to ~1200 cal/day, drinking a lot of water, more exercise). I currently weigh 235.0, and I have lost 9.4lbs since I started this about two weeks ago.

I want to set a goal for a concrete number that is well within my healthy weight range. Could someone please tell me a healthy weight for:

Age: 18
Sex: Male
Height: 6'3"

Thanks in advance.

Your really starving yourself at 1200 if you are that tall!

Geist,
At eighteen you want to be somewhat leaner than the "healthy weight of an adult"...the commonest formulae show a rrange of between 171-195. I'm going to weigh in at 170-180, because as you age it is so easy to passs the 190, 200, 210, 220, 230, 240 marks.:dizzy:

Medical Recommendation based on a Body Mass Index (BMI) range of 19-25, gives a weight range of 152 - 200.

I STRONGLY recommend a diet of at least 1500 calories/day or slightly more because a diet of 1200 calories WILL adjust your metabolic rate down and you will find it harder and harder to keep losing...and then almost impossible to stay at the lower weight.
Don't worry, even at 1500 calories you will lose weight like a house on fire.

<Congrats on the 9.4 pounds.<<you must have a GOOD scale! :D>>>

I agree with the above posters. I am a 5'8" female and eat 1500 calories a day. I am losing a steady 2-3 pounds a week and also am never hungry. At your age and height, you could eat between 1500-1800 and still lose but in a healthier way. Good luck and I hope you have continued success.

What does a typical menu of 1500 calories a day that keeps you full. I am 5"8 and 163 pounds and want to lose 2 pounds a week too. I tried 1200 calories but I felt really hungry and failed again. Maybe I should try 1500 calories. Do you have meal suggestions? My biggest fault is that I love Starbucks. I have a tall non-fat latte every day. It's a weakness.....

Hi Hoochie. I guess we're in the same boat. I started at 163. I'm down to about 150, but my goal is a ridiculous 130-135. At least it seems ridiculous when I think about how long it's going to take.
As far as my diet goes, I'm really strict so that I can get the max amount of food.
Breakfast: 80 calorie yogurt mixed with 1/2 cup fiber one and a cut up apple:ends up being around 220 calories

Snack: whole bag of Smart Pop kettle corn which is almost 200 calories

Lunch: wrap made with Flat Out wrap, turkey and tons of veggies & a piece of fruit: about 300 calories

Snack: some sort of cut up veggie & maybe a 100 calorie pack:150-200 calories

Dinner: Varies but I love grilling chicken breast or salmon and making some sort of frozen veggie to go with it. Calories depend on how many I have left from my day.

Snack: If I'm still hungry I make my favorite snack-cinnamon, sugar toast. But, I use Splenda and butter spay and diet bread. So, I get 4 pieces for 180 calories.
Or I'll have a cup of cottage cheese at 180 calories.

Hope that helps. I avoid Starbucks because it's one of my favorite places.:) I figure I'll treat myself every once in awhile, but not right now because I'm trying to be really disciplined. I did the 1200 calorie thing for awhile and always felt like I was starving so I ended up cheating every day. The point of this is to find something you can live with because it's kind of a life change. :)

Thanks Rubato, how long did it take you to get to 150? My best friend was 165 and she started working out at the gym and she is now 128 pounds after 4 months of exercise. So I know we can both do this. My problem isn't exercise, it's food!!! Do you keep a diary of your calories?

My biggest fault is that I love Starbucks. I have a tall non-fat latte every day. It's a weakness.....

No problem at all:
Starbucks
Latte, Nonfat Milk, Tall
(Drinks) 1 ea
(12 oz)
(360 gm) 123 calories

I have recorded every item of food and it's calories that I have consumed in the last 3 years! I may noot always be writing down LOW numbers, but I AM writing them down.
