I recently had my annual physical and something happened which never happened before. I got an erection. I'm 40 years old and this has never happened to me. Is this unusual? Has this happened to anyone else? My doctor didn't say anything and neither did I. It happened during the rectal exam. I was really embarassed. I don't think this is a gay thing, is it?

Well, I would say for a guy it is fairly normal, nothing gay about it or anything to be ashamed of.

I am no expert, but recall a strange physical sensation the first time I had mine checked and have read that some men enjoy stimulation of it. It could be that you had a purely physical reaction. Now, if you ask the Dr for a date.......

LOL, ah that would be a no. I only ask since this was the first time I got a dre and didn't know if it was a ususal response. I can't say I enjoyed the dre but it didn't really hurt like the doctor said it might. And I can't say I am looking forward to this in the future. I'd just rather not get an erection in front of another man even if he is my doctor.

Count your blessings. Many men, straight ones included, not only get erect, but ejaculate during either the physical, or the DRE. I've seen them complaining in horror about it. All the doctor does is hand you a tissue. He or she has seen it all before, and lots worse. It's a physical reaction, like popping one when a kid sits in your lap, which is horrifying to the man, but means nothing about his sexuality at all.

One time during one of my annual physicals, as the doctor was getting ready to do the DRE, he told me it might cause me to get an erection and not to worry that it happens to everybody. It did cause me to get an erection and it was no big deal.

Now that's what I call a good doctor! One that will give a fair warning of your bodies reaction to the finger probe. Ya know I've had a simuler reaction myself. My partial erection comes before the rectal exam. the part of the physicle when he tells you to turn your head and cough.Lol.. I'm very, very sensative to touch, and very glad to get this part over!:dizzy: I've got much better in the last few years, but it haven't been easy. I have to think about crazy things to be distracted from what was about to happen.
As for the prastate, gay men get their pleasure from the penis messaging the prostate dure anal intercourse. So, it's no surprise that we might get an erection.

Thanks guys. Feels better knowing this happens to other guys and it's not a gay thing. Nothing wrong with gay guys - but that's just not me. Now just so I don't ejaculate next time - something else to worry about - LOL

One time during the hernia check, I got an erection and my
doctor said "well that answers my next question, glad to see everything is working ok down there". We both laughed and he continued with the exam. I guess I'm lucky that I have a great doctor, that's why I've been with him for almost 20 years.

Don't worry about it. I always get an erection when the doc is examining my penis and foreskin. My foreskin is somewhat tight and the head is very sensitive. No doctor has ever said anything - me - I usually just stare at the ceiling. I really don't think doctors care, at least mine doesn't.

What is do upsetting about an erection or ejaculation under the circumstances? The doctor is male, he gets both the same as the rest of us.
