I have to start charting since my ovulation is off. I had my 4th child july 24 2006 so it took a bit to get it back and then in 1/07 i found out thyroid was off as well.. 2/07 my period was only 3 days and I didnt get pain for ovulation, 3/07 thyroid came back bad again and i went on medicine and by april/07 was just back in remision by a point. which was fine I was atleast feeling better. My ovulation pain still hadnt come back. I thought that this past weekend was days 15,16,17(fri,sat,sun) and I didnt get pain at all. Monday came and I got pain and that means that I ovulated on 17th. (pain comes after ovulation) so i called ob and told him taht we dont want to get pg right now but would like to make sure my period/ovulation is good before we start. I need to get back into shape and such before trying this. But would like figure out some things first. Like of course the thread i wrote about trying for a boy LOL and now this one with BBT.
Dr. said BBT for a couple months and see what it shows he said that I should use a cheap shake down thermometer NOT a digital. I said you mean like the old mercury ones? he said yes but now they make the shake down glass thermometers without the mercury, its something else and that is what i should use. Or my old mercury one. Which naturally i have since the digitals are never reliable and i have 4 kids and use them on them all the time . I have two of course.
Any insight to using the BBT? Any advice?

Mama of 4 you answered my question re thyroid here. I see you were diagnosed after your 4th child.
Well i was always advised to use the digital ones as they show up to 2 decimal points. I have been temping for quite a while > Although i always observe a pattern i sometimes get my doubts re accuracy too.
What i suggest to get started is read the book Taking Charge of your Fertility.
What you need to do is record your temp every day at the same time of the day before getting out of bed after at least 4 hrs of sleep. Consistency is the key to more accurate results. You need patience at first but then you kind of get used to it and it becomes part of your am routine.
What you will notice is an increase in temp the day after o occurs.
Good luck

amy thank you about the BBT.
I almost went into a storm after having a virus (baby #4 was about 5months old). BUT i was diagnosed in 2001 with Grave's Disease. I went into remission back in 2001 for almost 3 years then in 2005 I had a storm and they put me back into remission. It was almost 2 yrs that went by before this next one. I do well once in remission, i just have to watch the triggers. Which is for me the virus' I just cant get sick or i will come out remission.
Good luck
