View Full Version : kidney & stomach pains?

hi,
i'm a 45 year old male.

7 years ago i had a pyloplasty of left side kidney ureter
due to a narrowing.
about 2.5 years ago i started
getting pains on both kidney areas.
these pains have gradually worsened, & vary from
a scale of 3 at good times to about 7 at bad times.
the left kidney is 15% functional & dilated, but the tests
have shown right kidney seems to be ok.
but i still get pains on both sides,
the pains are around the sides, & sometimes at the lower
stomach areas. also get some chest tightness (had heart
checked but it seems fine). sometimes it seems like heart burn.
i now also have high blood pressure & cholestrol (for which
doctor had given me 10mg lipitor atorvastatin calcium).

i've never had blood in the urine, no kidney infections,
pee fine, if it was'nt for the pains, i would never
have guessed anything was wrong...
the pains are worse when sitting down,
they are not effected by anything i eat.
have been to the urologist, but they don't
seem to know what the problem is...
could it be a kidney problem? stomach problem? anything else?
any advice anyone? please help.....
thanks in advance
jas

p.s. i have been using the NHS in UK,
they're not very efficient, my next appointment
is feb 2008!!
i don't know if i can wait, anybody have any advice
about going private?
i have no insurance & not a lot of money,
but i'm really worried, i don't know what
the problem is, how to get it fixed, who to see...

Jass,

There is an excellent hospital near London for kidney problems. I think it is Kent or Troy I can't remember. I will have to check back in my notes. I have no advise on going private as I a US patient.

Good luck.

guys
thanks for the replys.

i've been to the ER a couple of times,
they did the standard urine, blood tests,
came back & showed no problems.
also check my heart cause of chest pains,
also showed no problems.

i had a kidney flow test about 1.5 years ago,
showed my right kidney seemed to be working fine
(left at 15%).
had another scan about 2 months ago, waiting for
the results on that one...
so i'm trying to keep on top of things, but
the urologists don't seem to see any problems
with my right kidney....
but the pain continues, so i'm thinking it
might be something else...
the pain is probably worse on my right side,
i don't have any back pain, mainly at the front
& stomach areas on the right side...so
it could be something else...

the hospitals & staff in the UK are generally
very good, its just very under-funded & getting worse..

any suggestions would be great..

thanks for all the help,
jas

hi allie
i am having a lot of pain mainly on my right side & right side stomach area.
i'm worried because my right side is supposed to be my healthy kidney.
my left is at about 15% & i have less pain on that side than the right healty side!!
the last tests from which i had results (about 1.5 years ago) showed
my right kidney to be ok.
i had the same tests again about 2 months ago (ultrasound, x-rays & ivu kidney
flow tests), so i'm trying to see the urologist to see
what the results are. its terrible not knowing the results, & the NHS in england
is really slow....

allie, you said you have a narrowing of the ureter on both sides?
how is your pain?
hope it works out for you,
thanks
jas

Jass,

Just a thought. How much protein do you eat? I no the English diet has a lot of protein in it. If the kidney is not 100% that protein turns into acid (uric acid to be precise) and you need carbs to mop up the acid.

hi
i have been trying to do some research on what i should & should not eat,
i have avoided high protein in my diet,
i was never advised by any of my doctors on my diet,
only learned about the 'kidney diet' from these & other internet sites,
if you know of any good 'kidney diet' sites let me know!!
