I had a motorbike crash about 8weeks ago now, after getting thrown around and rolling over 5 times I was doing (70mph) I got up and walked away as it was at a race track, I got taken off to the medical centre and he said it wasnt broken after having a look and feeling and moving my ankle in all directions. It did swell up a fair amount and brusing but it went down after 2/3weeks. I could put all my body wait on it with no pain or anything staight away as it only started to hurt 20-30mins later, it was just when bending it when you walk it hurt. Now 8weeks letter there is alittle tiny bit of swelling at the back of the ankle i can walk on it and run etc. But when bending it down at a steepish angle it feels tight it doesnt hurt just abit of a pulling feeling and also when bending it backwards. I can roll my ankle left and right ok, just again pulls alittle when its to the right when my wait is on. Anybody know when it will fully be 100%.

Thanks

Ankles take a long time to heal. Breaking one isn't the worst that can happen. Tearing soft tissue can cause you a lifetime of hurt. If your ligaments get torn beyond a certain limit they may not heal correctly which could cause your ankle to roll. I take it you're in the UK and probably didn't see an orthopedic surgeon or podiatrist. But that would have been the best thing to do early on. At this point all you can do is wait and see.

Yes am from the UK. I dont think i completely tore my ligements, As i could put all my wait onto it and i could move the ankle. The ankle doesnt feel weak or anything just like i said when moving at large degrees of angle it feels abit tight still, i can walk on it fine, cycling and running.

Ligaments are tricky, you can tear one and still walk on them and think all is well. I know I did. But they were weak just the same, one wrong step and I was on the ground in a heep.

So it will leave a weakness then? i have been told by people that once you sprain your ankle badly you will always have a weakness forever no matter what. Or give it time will get back to 100%? am still young and healthly.

If the ligaments were stretched beyond a limit they won't tighten up. Kind of like pulling a rubber band to its breaking point. You might do okay with physical therapy but if you roll it and sprain it again it might be time to think about surgery to tighten up the ligaments.
