I'm 31 and have hypogonadism diagnosed with this about a year ago from a urologist but i dont think i have enough testing.so i've been trying to figure out which kind of DR to go to anti-aging or endo.i found a anti-aging DR thats a specialist in male andopause but im not sure if this is the right way to go since im 31 and not trying to stop aging.i'm sure that the low-t came on quickly i dont know why and thats what i would like to find out.do you think that i should see outher DR's frist and did you?if you did seek trt from a anti-aging DR how much did it cost??I dont have ins so i will paying it all.i used androgel for about 9 month's and felt better but i started to have some problems.what kind of DR are you guy's seeing??what med's do thay have you on??this DR seem's open minded from his web page.thank's for reading my post any anwsers you can give would be great>421
many anti-aging docs know about hormones.
Look at him. Is he in good shape or is he fat?
If he is a fat old man he would not be for me.
I go to one that is a model for anti-aging medicines.

I think you have a vaild question. If you are trying to get to the root of your problem, then you may want to see an Endo!! but if you get to the point where TRT is your solution, then possibly the anti aging Doc is the best way to go becuase he is possibly more open minded about balancing hormones and such not just slap on some androgel and hope for the best.
good luck.

The problem is it's hard to find a doctor who knows how to treat male hormone problems. Anti-aging docs tend to know how to do this better than any other particular kind of doctor. Even though you are only 31 the treatment would be the same as for someone older most likely. However, you also want to find the root cause which is smart. I don't know if the anti-aging doctor would be good at this or not. My guess is they would but of course it depends on the particular doctor. You could also try a reproductive endocrinologist possibly.
If you are paying cash anyway, I would suggest you travel and see Dr. John Crisler in Lancing MI or Dr Eugene Shippen in Shillington PA. Dr. Shippen will try to find the root cause if it can be found. I know because he is my doctor. Often though the cause can not be found. In fact this is the majority of cases. Androgel is expensive....very expensive to pay cash for. One month of 5g packets or pump is well over $200 I think. You can get a compounded T cream for about $25 a month. I take T injections which cost me about $20 per month. Also HCG which costs me about $30 per month and DIM which is another $20 a month. All those combined is much less than androgel.
Also, be aware if paying cash you may very likely need an MRI of the pituitary. That can cost over $2000 but if paying cash you can probably shop around and ask if they give a discount to patients paying cash. You may get it for half the price if you do that. The blood tests can also be very expensive if paying cash. I would find a lab on the web that takes cash patients...I bet you can save 75% doing that.

Dr. Shippen told me that's about what it costs a year ago. I don't use it so I can't tell you from where for sure but I do know the pharmacy he uses in Shillington PA for some other compounded creams and they are fairly cheap. Not sure if I can post the name of it or not.
androgel 5g cost me about $240 a month.what is the diffrents in bioidentical and androgel besides the cost?ithink that im going to go with the anti-aging DR that i found.i should treat the problem and mabe i can find out what happend with the test that i get done.HAYFARMER i read up on your DR and you are lucky to have him it looks like he knows what hes doing.i've seen his book at some book stores i'll have to check it out!JINL i did not understand your post i hope that i did not upset you the reason that i said any thing about age is that on the web page's that i have been reading thay talk about hormones slow lee going away and mine just whent.thay dont talk about some one like me.JINXY that's what i dont want to happen agin (slaping on androgel) i hope that i have learned about this and can get this worked out.if i have to use trt for the rest of my life than that's that.i hope that all of you are getting the right treatment it seems to be a pain in the***421

I think the only real diff between androgel and the compounded creams are the gel will soak in faster and is clear. It's really a matter of convenience in my opinion, not a matter of which is better. However, I have never used the creams so I can not say for sure. For the diff in price I would certainly try the cream anyway.
421, you are right, what is wrong with you is not andropause like many of the anti-aging sites talk about. However the same treatments can be used to treat both. The only difference is in determining what is the cause of your hypogonadism and if the real cause can be found you may find another treatment is possible. My guess is an anti-aging doctor if he is any good will be able to do this also. My only caution is to be careful of the ones that sell their own meds. They may be overcharging. Selling you the first bottle is fine but they should be willing to write an Rx you can take anywhere.
You can always go see Dr. Shippen too if you want to. He does take new patients sometimes. Not sure if he is at the moment or not.
