Hello everyone. I have been on Lithium for about 1 1/2 months and I can't seem to stay awake. I go to bed at 10 and wake up at 7am and still fall asleep at work. I dont feel like myself until around 10am. I have tried taking my medicine earlier but that hasnt helped. Think it could be a side effect of the Lithium.

it very well could be a side effect of the lithium although i'm not sure. i'm not a doc, i would probably let my pdoc know what is happening and take it from there.

I take Lithium and it's definitely a side effect.. It's amazing some days I'm fine and others I just can't make it through the day. I take 600mgs a day!

hi there Nick,
yes i would definitely say it's a side effect, especially when you first start taking any mood stabiliser. I take 2000mg depakote and i couldn't keep my eyes open for the first couple of months. Felt completely like i was in cotton wool. I agree with Dee-Nah too, some days are worse which seems to just go on forever. But the good days come more frequently too.

Two nights ago I took some hydrocodone for pain and slept very well through the night. When I woke up the next morning I was fine. Took it again last night (I know I am self medicating) and I was fine again this morning. I know that I have an old prescription of Trazadone that might have the same effect. I will have to dig it up in my pill drawer. I just really want to give Lithium a chance becuase I do not want to take just the Geodon. Then I would have to take an antidepressant and I just went through withdrawl coming off the Lexapro. Right now I have no insurance so seeing Pdoc is out of the question since I just spent $220 on the Geodon. Just trying to make it through untill I get insurance in about 1 month.
