I just got my cystoscopy with stent placement today. Is this going to hurt until they remove it? Or will it at least subside? I don't like this! :(

I will subside slightly but will never really be comfortable. Sorry I couldn't be more optimistic for you but I thought that honesty would serve you best.

I appreciate your honesty. How long did you have your stents in? I hope it isn't for very long - I have a house to run and 5 kids and a hubby to take care of and when I take the pain pills it makes me groggy.

duzford

The longest I had it in was 2 1/2 months which is not typical. To make matters worse for part of that time I had 3 days of a foley catheter in to.

06-21-2007, 05:24 PM
Geez I hope I don't have to have it in that long! I feel bad for both of you! I asked the doc today and he said it usually comes out after 1 - 2 weeks. I guess it's just a waiting game. Thanks for the info! I'll keep you posted.

And just think of how many days you did already!!

Hang in there - YOU CAN DO IT!

Rickysmom
06-22-2007, 06:27 PM
How are you doing today??

It will be over before you know it...:)

Hang tight...

I was doing fine, maybe at a 2 painwise, then I weeded the garden and I've been regretting it ever since!

Well, the litho is on Monday, cross your fingers for me! Thanks for your support!:)

Weeding the garden.....more power to you.

Good luck on Monday, you should do fine. We'll be waiting for an update.

Wings crossed for you!

Hi guys! Well, it seems like they were able to zap the stone. I've been passing a lot of grains, I guess we'll see! I'm feeling a little better but still have sharp pains from time to time. That's my update!:)

Rickysmom
06-27-2007, 09:53 PM
Should I be concerned? It seems like I'm not passing as many little stones as I did after the litho. In fact last time I didn't pass any at all. I hope this doesn't mean that it didn't get blasted.:(

duzford

Sometimes the stones even after blasting are slow. Elevate the hips and help slide them towards the exit. (You can even try hanging upside down if you have an anti-gravity table and can handle stuff like that - just make sure there is someone with you when you do this.)

They too shall pass.

Rickysmom, It took me about a month to pass all of my stone. It wasn't totally gone after my two week check up, but was finally gone after a month. Sometimes I passed small pieces, sometimes large, sometimes nothing at all. Don't worry and give it some time. Also, I put lemon in my water all the time (and still do). That helps to prevent the pieces from binding back together again.

Sounds like you are doing good and normal. Hang in there!

Thanks glowing, that's really helpful and makes me feel better about my progress! I think I'll try the lemon juice!:)

Hey that's my saying!:p Thanks for reminding me!

How does elevating my hips help them move down?

If you look at the anatomy, the stones settle at the bottom of the kidney and settle. Gravity keeps them there but the ureter is slightly higher then the bottom of the kidney so you need to coax the stones to move up and out.

glowing4
06-29-2007, 07:32 AM
Rickysmom, My stone was in the ureter too and they blasted it just fine. How are you doing today? Passed any more pieces? I know I worried if I didn't see any pieces for a day or several days and then one or two would appear. I would sometimes know as I would get a little achy and then I could tell they were in my bladder - sort of a heavy, achy feeling. Other times the pieces were so small that they passed through with no problem. It all just seems to be a process and that process takes awhile. When do you go back to the doctors and are you getting another KUB? My first KUB after the litho made it appear as if the stone was 10mm when it had only been 7 to begin with. That was because it was broken apart and the pieces scatter - sort of like if you hit a marble with a hammer. Two weeks later the KUB was clear and all pieces gone. Hang in there, sounds like you are doing very good - just give it some more time.

Hi, Glowing, I'm still just passing grains. The pain seems to get worse when I do anything active. What is a KUB? I'm going in on Monday the 9th for xray. Hope 2 get good news! On the 13th we'll be going on vacation so I hope I can get the stent out before then!

How big would you say your biggest piece was after they blasted it and you passed it?

glowing4
07-01-2007, 07:37 AM
Hi Rickysmom. A KUB is the xray, exactly what you are having and that should give you some answers. I did have more pain when I was too active. Sometimes I think that was more from the procedure - achiness in my back. Also, the pain will be worse when the pieces move. I sort of knew when that was happening and when they passed into my bladder my bladder would feel achy with pressure - sort of like a UTI. My first xray showed that a lot of pieces were still there and it took another two weeks to pass them all. I was getting worried and so measured the larger pieces with a ruler. It is insane how worried you can get!!! Anyway, the larger ones were 1mm to 1 1/2 mm. Of course, that was a very rough measurement done with a ruler. I think the size of the pieces depends more on how much the stone was blasted. If it totally was smashed then you will see smaller pieces. I had both - some large, some very tiny, some tan, some black, all sorts of different stuff, so don't worry about that too much. It sounds like overall you are doing very good. If some pieces remain and show on the xray, don't worry, it does take time. That surprised me as I thought they would just all leave rather quickly. Also, keep adding lemon juice to your water. That seemed to help me a lot and I still do it to help prevent further stones.

I did not have a stent and am most grateful for that. I sometimes wonder if it would have helped pass things quicker, but they passed just fine without one. My stone was in the ureter, not the kidney, so that might have been the reason for no stent. I really don't know the answer to that.

Try not to worry and let your body do the work. It will!

Glowing, thanks for the info and your experience. I have been feeling that all too familiar feeling in my bladder when I get a UTI, so I hope that means I will be passing some soon.

I had a stent in because my stone was blocking flow from my kidney to my bladder and causing severe hydronephrosis. You're lucky you didn't have to get one! Not fun at all.:(

I'm getting more severe pain in my bladder along with nausea and lightheadedness. Hope it will pass soon! I feel like I can't do anything except rest these days.

Oh, I am so sorry, but do try to take this as a good sign. I did the same thing when large pieces of the stone had passed into my bladder. You should void them fairly soon. Should things get worse call your doctor. And, it is OK if you feel like resting, so did I. Your body has been through a lot and needs to recover. I used a heating pad when things felt really yucky and that helped a lot, so did warm baths. Try not to worry. It sounds like you are getting there. I am sure others on here will help too and offer some advice that I might not have.

Thinking of you with understanding,

Well, I took a lortab, then a 3-hour nap, then made dinner for my family. Still hurting quite a bit, but at least I feel rested! I have been passing a lot more pieces, one was about 1mm big, so it looks like I'm making progress!:bouncing:

Yeah Rickysmom!!!! See, that is how I felt each time I passed a piece that was about 1mm. Yes, sure sounds like you are making progress and you will come to the end of this. I remember the last big piece I passed. I was getting so discouraged and I was hurting. BUT, little did I know that was the end!! Hang in there, your end is coming too.

Yay. At this stage, do not elevate the hips anymore. You want gravity to do it's think so you can pass those stones away. We will call the big one Bob.

What did you take for the nausea that worked anyway?

P.S. Your latest stone has been named Leo

No more migraine and nausea, but I came across some really sharp spasms for about an hour, they're finally calming down. Can't wait for this to be over! I just wanna enjoy my summer with my family!:(

Rickysmom
07-03-2007, 10:40 PM
I feel the same I'd love to enjoy the summer also with my family at this rate I don't think it's going to be that great so I'm making the most of it before I go in.

The spasms sound like renal colic...it's worse than childbirth...

Have a nice fourth..

Ooh, I hope I don't have that too!

I am so sorry you lost a baby...I read your post on the other thread...

My heart goes out to you...

Thanks, it was just a fetus at the time, but it was still difficult nonetheless.

Rickysmom

I've heard of that. Even though you had a baby you must have still felt the lost for the other one. I'm sorry!

I didn't wait long to get pregnant after my miscarriage. Instead of having a spring baby I ended up with a summer one! Now I have 5 beautiful children:)

Wow, Allie, sorry you have had so many losses! I feel blessed that I only had one miscarriage. There are so many women who have a hard time conceiving and miscarry all the time. I guess statistically speaking, I'm in the norm. I think one out of every 5 pregnancies is a miscarriage.

I'm glad you got to have your 3 sons anyway! Cherish them!

I'm depressed today. I'm so tired of being in pain and tired and not being able to do anything. :(

And yesterday morning my bladder was hurting but I let my hubby have his way with me, and a few minutes into it I started crying because my bladder was so sensitive.

Does this affect your sex life?

Hope you're all doing well!

Hope you feel better soon.

Both my husband & I have had stents and have never had sex when we have them in. Having a stent in definitely kills the desire to have sex, but we've never tried yet. I have a stent in now that I've had since Mid May. Just on my xray this week before surgery the stent had dropped big time. It was twisted around in my bladder. They fixed it during the surgery.

Of course they say you can resume normal activities when you have a stent but I think this is a lie. Maybe all urologist should have to have a stent inserted and keep it in for at least a month that way they now how it feels.:p

Hubby did not feel right trying it when I had a stent - he had visions of going to far and getting stuck - I told him that was more like wishful thinking! I was told I can even TTC when I had my stent in but that really felt wrong.

Heck I think they should just be made to be a patient facing an unknown for a while to see what it is like. Some schools are actually doing that now.

Stents....weeding...sex.....grocery shopping you are QUITE the dynamo there lady.

Has the pressure eased off at all? If not I suggest you lay down with a heating pad and your feet (no not the hip thing) elevated for at least 1/2 an hour (if not a full hour) today and relax a bit - though it sounds like you seldom do that. You are diligent with your yard work, one day will not hurt. And one day of not tidying the house will not hurt either (unless you live with my husband). Even if you have to get someone to babysit for an hour or send the kids to a movie take care of yourself before you make matters worse! And don't feel guilty about relaxing, imagine what it would be like if something did go wrong. If I could I would send you dinner so you can get off your feet a while. {With the right internet connection, I can send you a cyber meal. ;-) }

Good luck and keep us posted - and no - surfing the web does not count as that 1/2 hour of relaxation.

Thank you for your replies ladies! It really means a lot to me!:) I'm feeling better knowing I have so much support on this. I even showed the posts to my hubby so I could feel VALIDATED! I think he's really depressed about all this too, and I feel bad for him.

I did take a couple hour rest today(after weeding for awhile, then being in pain again and taking a pain pill) I know, it's just so hard for me to sit around and do nothing! Especially on a really nice day!

Nora, I'm sorry you've had to have a stent in for so long! That must really be nuissance!

2Plus, you're always good for a laugh, thanks for that! I wish you could send me a nice home cooked meal too! That would be nice.

Thanks, Allie, I know I put my family through **** sometimes too when I'm not feeling good. I love my husband all the more for staying with me all these years through all the good and mostly the bad.

I will try to stay away from the weeds as much as possible.;)

I plan on spending most of the weekend just relaxing!

Sounds like us, sometimes I hop on the back of his motorcycle and we just go to the store or out to lunch. You know, low key stuff. I know it's tough for him, and I need to offer my love and companionship in other ways besides in the bedroom. Thanks for caring, Allie!

That sure is the truth Allie.

Both me & my husband have had stones in the past. His were not as bad as mine, but he has some heart conditions that we also have to deal with. He has an ICD (implantable cardiac defibirlator) that is always a concern.

I started my drama with the stones only a month after we were married. Family jokes that is was the marriage that gave me the stones:jester:

Between all of the surgeries and testing between us that past nine years you really appreciate the little things. Sometimes just getting my back rubbed or him remembering to take the trash out w/o being asked says more than words.

For being in our mid 30's we sometimes feel alot older than we are;)

Lisalieksmakeup -

How do I put this bluntly.......succesful sexual activities lead to the infamous tremor that is often staged in movies such as Harry Meets Sally. Unfortunately that tremor can trigger spasms like you can not believe - some good some not. Hubby and I have indulged in other sexual activities except intercourse with the stents - you also have to be careful because you are more suspectible (sp?) to infections. (stick to the basics and wait for anything too 'experimental'). Ergo your docs advise is not off the target.

My doctor didn't say anything about that. He acted like it was no big deal and I should be able to get on with my life. HA!!
