View Full Version : Possible Surgical Tool Left Inside

OK so here's the scenario. My mom had breast implants back in August. She came home that day sick & has had complications ever since. She overheard them that day talking about losing a needle. She asked if they ever found it & was told no. She wonders if the sickness that started later that day & continued could be from the needle being inside her. She has been nauseous, diarrhea, bleeding, fatigued...just feeling TERRIBLE. She can't get her family doc to do an x-ray, and the surgeon who did the surgery has tried to dismiss the very idea that it is possible but finally ordered a mammogram. Of course, we think that's absurd. Why? B/c if it were in there, then the mammogram - which presses very hard - could cause worse problems like punctured lung or implant, internal bleeding... He should've just ordered a x-ray, MRI, or CT.

Anyone have any thoughts?

Hi there,

I'm no expert but if I thought a needle was left inside of me, I would not want a mammogram. I would be asking for an x-ray or Catscan.

If the surgeon is unable to reassure your mother as to why a mammogram is safe in this situation and is the best option, she should seek another opinion.

My girlfriends daughter had breast reduction several years ago, and she too got very sick afterwards. turned out to be a very bad infection from the surgery. Is your mom on antibiotics????

I would just go to an E.R explain everything, and see what they do. Stop fooling around with this.

That's not even possible b/c it's 10 months later, and it wouldn't cause all the side effects I listed. Thanks though!
