A week ago I noticed suddenly that my vision was blurry and there was a dark spot in my central vision. I went to the ER and the doctor sent me off to the Opthamologist. He examined my eye very thoroughly and told me that I had a small hemmorage on my retina/macula. He said it should clear up within a couple months on its own, but that it could start bleeding again. I have a follow up appt with him and it all seemed to be ok but I've been doing some reading and the symptoms seem to sound like some other vision conditions. Has anyone else had this condition and can they tell me anymore about it? I also remember the Opthamologist using the word "fibrosis", what does this word mean? anyone know? I'd appreciate any info anyone can share....thanks a bunch.

ME! I have the same thing!Maybe worse...In 98 I started to notice a halo in the left hand cornor of my left eye....I ended up going to an eye specialist ...... Retina Consultants.........diagnosis..........C NVM.....idiopathic.....

I under went focal laser treatments......but yet the halo came back......When it finally hit my central vision I could no longer under go laser treatments...I under went major surgery.....to try and repair my central vision.....with no luck......I have a permanent blindness in my left eye.......well the central vision of my left eye...I was 36 yrs old at the time........I'm not implying this is what you have...but when you said dark circle in your central vision this for sure came to mind......I have idiopathic subfoveal choroidal neovascular membrane of my left eye.........I wish you the best of luck!

Me too. I am living with eals disease for about 15 years now. I am 31 years old. After the diagnosis, I underwent laser umpteen times, and most of the oedema on macula has been taken care of, i.e. most of the major floaters obstructing vision were gone, apart from some very minor things. After initial flurry of lasers, for last 7 years I lived without hemmorage, then last year it reccured. So instead of laser this time, doctor gave me high dose of steroid. for a week and apparently it responded. Though in normal circumstances, doc has strictly prohibited me from taking any steriod medication....

Its a manageable disease, if you can find a competent retina specialist. Though there is no permanent cure. Doctor has often told me to avoid strenous exercises.... anything that unsettles the normal blood circulation.

But apparently there is very little information about what really causes, this disease. So please be careful, if you are diagnosed with this. And please do share your experiences.

Had a retinal hemorrhage last May. Saw the Opthalmologist I see for other retina problems. Yes, the hemorrhages do clear on their own. But you need to keep a close watch on them. (Mine led to a retinal tear, but I am prone to those, anyway). Can be due to other health problems, too. My boyfriend's father has hemorrhages due to diabetes. Be patient, though, as it takes some time to be re-absorbed by the body. But it will. It is an annoying thing and hard to forget when you have to see it all the time. I can surely empathize with you. I had similary problem with being unable to get full information on Eals disease.I had the very same sypmtons as you in 1961/2 at the time I was in Hong Kong in the military.
Luckily i was shipped back home to the UK then to Germany where i was checked out at an eye clinic in Munster Germany.
I recieved what was known then as photo colagoration treatment a type of bright light treatment to seal off the broken blood vessels.
Unfortunately this did not work and of course that far back in years very little was known of Eals disease.
I have just recently been diagnosed with diabetes and of course reading the med websites have since found that Eals disease may be connected to diabetes in one way or the other.
It is strange that over the many years I have attended hospitals etc that the medical profession do not have much knowledge of this ailment.
Well a bit of good news is that Opthalmy has advance a million years now so dont worry too much about it.
