View Full Version : Foundation Shades

Okay, so I just went out and bought a new bottle of MaxFactor foundation. I decided I had to give it a try.

I have really fair skin so I usually get the classic ivory shade... it matches my natural skin tone pretty well since I have a weird yellow-ish undertone.
But since it's summer I like to use self-tanners for most of the season, but I don't use them on my face since they don't last. So I figured I can just use a darker foundation so there isn't a huge difference between the color of my body and my face.
So naturally I bought a darker shade this time - cool bronze.
When I was testing it at the store it looked a bit darker than my skin so I thought it was okay. Well, I tried it at home, and it's definitely at least a shade darker than I hoped it would be... it's slightly more red/pink than my natural skin tone.

I don't feel like going back and returning it, so I was wondering is it okay to use it anyway? I usually mix foundation with moisturizer, so I figure that will fade out the color a little bit. I also have a light shade of powder, so I figure if I apply that over the foundation that will lighten it up a bit.

Is it okay to use it that way?

I'm sure it's perfectly fine to do that. When you run out of the darker shade, I suggest that you get a tinted foundation... maybe that will give the illusion of bronzer skin. But I haven't used that before, so I don't know.

Thanks. After I'm done with this one I'm definitely gonna try tinted moisturizers or something. My skin's been really great recently so hopefully that won't change and I won't need as much makeup other than a moisturizer and some bronzer.
