I'm a 30 yr old female. I have astigmatism in one eye. I was told that if it were much worse I wouldn't be able to wear contacts, but I guess they just meant normal contacts. I can't remember the name of the other kind of contacts, but I guess I'm nowhere near bad enough to not wear them. I have no problem seeing close up without my glasses, but I can't see more than a couple feet away, depending on the size of the text, without my glasses. I'm only a foot and a half - two feet away from the monitor as I type this, and I can't see it without my glasses. I'm wondering if anyone could give me advice on laser surgery. Any good websites...different methods. I know Lasik is the main one, but there's at least one other method isn't there?
What are ideal conditions for having laser surgery done. What conditions would make a surgeon NOT want to do it....good stories, horror stories...I would like to hear it all. Thanks for any help/advice you can give http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Have you considered INTACS? This seems like a much safer option than laser surgery. Intacs are made by Keravision, which I think has a website discussing the procedure.

Sorry, Intacts are not an option. Intacs only correct low levels of nearsightedness and do not correct astigmatism. The idea of Intacs is great but the actual procedure has fallen out of favor and has not proven lasting benefits over laser vision correction. KeraVision the manufacturers of Intacs recently cut their staff from 130 to 12. Not much growth there. See an Ophthalmologist in your area preferably a corneal specialist for the best most accurate information for your set of eyes.
