The best one I've tried is Ocean Potion Ever Glow, as suggested by another poster on the self-tanner thread (can't remember the exact title of it, but it should be somewhere on page 2 or 3).
Though it's good because it doesn't stink (smells like orange vanilla), it dries quickly, and produces as natural color as you can get with a self-tanner (still a bit orange though), and the results take a while to achieve.
BUT by the time you get that perfect color (after about 5-7 days), the tanner starts to come off and looks patchy.
It's really a huge pain to deal with. I've realized that you have to exfoliate at least every other day if you want the color to come out even and stay on for a long period of time (usually a couple of weeks), but exfoliating also makes it fade much faster, and you have to apply the lotion on every single day.
I go through a bottle every month... good thing it's only about $4 at WalMart so it's not expensive.
I had to scrub all of it off today and I'm gonna start over tonight, so hopefully by the middle of the week I'll have a decent tan.
Basically, as with every tanner, you have to exfoliate frequently, apply the lotion on daily, and try not to take hot baths/showers because that will definitely strip the color off. I think that's why mine came off in patches this morning. I was horrified when I looked in the mirror... it looked like skin disease or something... but that's because I took a hot shower last night.
I h ope this helps. Good luck with whichever tanner you decide to try. I hope it works out.

I still love my Aveeno Continous Radiance. It absorbs/dries fast and gives a very natural looking color. Everyone thinks I'm just going tanning or laying in the sun. :) I use the one with the dial on it (to control how dark you get). It's a little pricey at $14, but well worth it to me. I do have to exfoliate every few days, though, when it starts looking patchy. Honestly, I really don't think any of that stuff stays on forever.

If anyone's a Katie and Peter fan I found out she uses St Tropez wich you should be able to find at bath&body works (unfortunately they didnt have it at mine) or from their website. I guess you have to put it on at night and make sure you sleep in old sheets because it will stain but you have to wash it off in the morning and voila your tan. Shes pretty darn wealthy so I would assume its good since she could afford anything.
Yesterday I bought Neutrogena's sheer body tint and tried it out right away. Its a mousse that you apply and it give you an instant color that washes off. It will take a little bit of practice to apply it really good because it kinda dries quickly but you can correct mistakes such as streaks with a wet cloth. It says not to put it on after moisturizing but one reviewer said it worked better to put on moisturizer then wait 15-20 minutes. Im going to actually try mixing it with my moisturizer and see if that helps keep it wet longer. This is really good for an instant bronze, especially while waiting for a self tanner to work (which the St Tropez doesnt sound like you really have to wait but the daily lotions you do)

I'M CURIOUS ABOUT THIS TOO. IS IT AN AUTOMATIC SPRAY? DO YOU JUST STAND IN THE ROOM AND IT SPRAYS AUTOMATICALLY? HOW MUCH DOES IT COST USUALLY?

I also really like the Ocean Potion Ever Glow. I'm a college student so I can't afford to get expensive spray tans done every few days since sunless tanners usually don't last long with me since I have to shave often. Just know that the Ocean Potion looks NATURAL and isn't going to make you super dark. I used to go tanning as well and I don't think this stuff can ever get me as tan I was, but I was going almost every single day (so bad for my skin!). I get a really nice color from Ocean Potion and it looks great and people have told me they wished they had tan legs like I have, so I guess it's dark enough! My favorite part is that it doesn't stink really bad. It actually has a nice scent to it (open the bottle and sniff it in the store to see for yourself). I just put it on after I shower and within a couple of days I start to see a noticeable difference. I notice a difference after one day, but it really builds up after that. It's also under $5 for a good sized bottle! I bought mine at Walmart.

I have used the Mystic Tan (spray in salons) several times. I think it's great. It is expensive. About $20 per spray. I got a deal last summer where they had buy 3 get 3 free. I only use them for special ocassions like weddings, etc. I got sprayed last summer before we went on vacation and it lasted pretty much the whole week. I avoided the pool, however, so that's something to think about. I was afraid it would come off patchy and I'd have no way to fix it and no jeans with me........haha.
So anyway you do go into a shower stall type thing. They have cream in the salon for you to use on your elbows, knees, hands and feet since supposedly the tan sticks to those areas more. And they give you goggles and a shower cap. So you stand facing the sprayers and you push the button for it to begin. Hold your arms out from your body....I usually have my elbows almost even with my shoulders at my side. It sprays you up and down (kinda like a car wash) several times and then it pauses. It gives you time to turn around. When you turn around, hold you arms the same way but bend your wrist so the spray won't go on your palms. Oh and stand with your feet apart. If I remember right, there are feet on the floor to tell you where to stand. After it sprays your back, you get out and pat yourself with a towel and get dressed. It's quick. The most time consuming part is prepping. They say you will see the color in a few hours, but I usually get it done on my lunch break on Friday and I don't really see the color until the next morning when I get up. And I use old sheets and wait until then to shower. To, me it's very natural looking. I am pale, and burn easily in the sun. I used to go tanning, but I haven't been in 5 years and don't plan to ever do that again. At my salon, they have 3 choices......lite, med, dark. I picked the lite my first time, but it was too light. Now I always get level 2 - medium and it's perfect.
I have two tips for you. 1. The first spray that comes out is very cold and is a shock to you. Don't open your mouth! I did and it tasted terrible. HAHA. Won't do that again. 2. Put the cream on the bottoms of your feet too. Walking on the floor in the "shower" after the spray is done will make your feet to turn black on the bottom.
Good luck. Let me know your experiences.

Do you all think the medium color from the mystic tan gives you a good amount of color? I wanted to try it out for special events when I can afford it, but wasn't sure about it yet! I am pretty fair skinned, I wear one of the lightest shades in Bare Minerals, but when I used to go tanning I was in the upper medium shades in most makeup brands. I got a LOT darker, not just a couple of shades. My self tanner makes me maybe 1-2 shades darker, but I can still wear the same makeup color.. I just put on some bronzer so my face doesn't look light. I want to try a mystic tan if it will make a big difference.
Also, how is the smell? Does the self tanner have that weird scent for a while? Also, before you shower for the first time, can it stain any clothes? I just want to know so I won't wear any light colors if I do it. Thanks!

RE: Mystic Tan
I can't really say which level to choose for you. Maybe the girls at the salon would have a better idea. It does smell weird and it does stain. I have an old bathing suit that I wear in there.......I haven't had the courage to go nude yet...haha. And I wear black clothes in and out so it won't stain. After I shower the next day, I don't have any problems with staining. It is quite dark (and maybe a little orange) the next day but after you shower it tones down. I'm going on my lunch break today, actually. I have a wedding to attend this weekend.

I definitely wanted to try the St.Tropez... sounds promising. But I checked out the price, and wow not really worth it.
The small bottle of spray tan is $33, and a small tanning "system" consisting of a 3 small bottles is $43. It sounds great, but that is not affordable.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll definitely take some dark clothes with me if I go do the mystic tan! I'm thinking of doing it later this summer for my birthday. I will be trying it nude.. so hopefully that will work out okay! I just don't want to have tan lines since I wear a lot of halter tops and tube tops.. I don't want any lines on me!

A friend of mine goes in nude, and she wears round band-aids over her nipples. Sorry, if it's TMI, but she said her nipples looked black the first time and it took a long time to wear off. So now she covers them. Thought that might help you too.

You can find it at WalMart.
It's called Malibu Hemp Golden Glow. The scent is amazing and initially it works okay... but it gets patchy after a week and a half or so. And than it gets horribly orange. I loved it at first, but won't use it anymore. Ocean Potion Ever Glow works better, it's not as orange, the scent is very pleasant, it doesn't get as patchy when it starts to fade, and it's abotu $2 cheaper.

Omg, I'm so mad. I ran out of Ocean Potion Ever Glow and went to WalMart (the only place that sells it) to get more... and it turns out that they either don't sell it anymore, or they ran out. Most likely they don't sell it because I didn't see any empty boxes (like I usually do).
Does anyone know if any other places sell this stuff?
I know that Rite-Aide is pretty much the only other store that's carries Ocean Potion products, but I just went to one and they didn't have it. All they have are those bronzing tan enhancers or whatever (I don't tan so that stuff wouldn't be very useful).
This is soooo beyond uncool. This is the only good/extremely cheap tanner and now that's gone.

That is really good to know that Sally's sells Ocean Potion Ever Glow. They are redoing the Walmart that is near me and all of the self tanners were GONE.. only a few sunscreens here and there. Unfortunately I did not find it at Sally's. I went and looked all over the store... finally found the sunless tanner section but did not see any Ocean Potion products. I also checked online and they don't have it there either.
I did, however, e-mail the Ocean Potion company and I got an e-mail back within a couple of hours. They told me that WalMart and Rite-Aid are the best places to look, but if you don't find them there, than you should just talk to the Cosmetic Departmen Manager who can probably order the product for you. I'm definitely going to have to do that next time. I'm gonna check out a different WalMart store tonight though in hopes that they have it. If not than I'll just ask for a special order or something.

i personally enjoy Neutrogena Sunless Spray Tan (in a can). I use the one that is for dark, or level 3 shades darker than your natural skin color. It works real good after a few applications and it isn't orange. only complaint, it does smell a little, but not bad. i put it on after a shower at night, and just take a quick shower in the morning to get the smell gone. stuff works great though, and can get all your areas since it has a arched spray nozzle.
if not, go to a Mystic Tan at a local tanning salon, or have another spray tan. it is the same type of ingredient that makes your skin have the melanin color of a tan and lasts 5-7 days, depending on how much you bathe or swim. you need to exfoliate before and don't use lotion or get wet for 6 hours after the application, so go prepared. they work great, but be careful to listen to the salon's instructions and use the stuff they give you for in between your fingers and on your fingernails. only problem i experienced was my face was a tad oily the first day, but it went away (my face has the T-zone problem anyway). but no big deal!!!!
Hope that helps!:D

there's nothing to be nervous about the spray tan:cool: it's quick, painless haha, and you've got a tan in a few hours. try one session out before you are planning to go and see how ya like it at the tanning salons...i like the Mystic Tan. then you'll know for sure if it gives you the result you want.
if not try that Neutrogena self sunless spray tan, but it takes a few times to get dark.
good luck, if any questions, check out the Mystic Tan website...has a ton of info on how it works, etc.
and btw....good thing not using the death trap of a tanning bed......
I had two moles removed that were pre-melonoma this march. i used to go every day for 2 months out of the summer to get very dark.....STUPID....just don't think it Can't happen to you...be safe!!!!

I totally agree about the moles. I layed out in the sun for years as a teenager (I'm 37 now) and never got any new moles or had any that I already have (that I was born with) change in color or anything. But, I went to the tanning bed for just a couple of years and had a bunch of new moles crop up on my stomach. The scary part about it is that they were colorless, so I didn't even notice them until I started using sunless tanner. My arms were starting to look like a leather coat, too. I quit going last year, they're bad news. :nono:

it's totally worth it! it usually lasts 5-7 days from one application, that includes regular bathing etc. however, if you go a couple times like once every 5 or 7 days like 3 times or something, you will have a better likelihood of the tan being deeper and lasting much longer. just try one out and see how it lasts on you, i think you would enjoy it. also, you can always take the spray tan in a can, like the neutrogena one, with you to respray yourself at night-if you think you are losing any color, which i doubt much over 4 days.
if you are nervous about the moles, totally go to a dermatologist and have your whole body checked over, that's what i did and i'm sure glad i did. he removed the two "suspicious" ones and i couldn't believe they were pre-melonoma....scared the wits out of me! i'm only 26, i thought, i can't have that happen....not true!
i'm to the point after that where, i just done care how pale i am, and that i'm thankful to not be going to the beds anymore. i see all these girls that are orange from the beds and just want to grab them and tell them....QUIT!!:D
let me know what ya try!
it's totally worth it! it usually lasts 5-7 days from one application, that includes regular bathing etc. however, if you go a couple times like once every 5 or 7 days like 3 times or something, you will have a better likelihood of the tan being deeper and lasting much longer. just try one out and see how it lasts on you, i think you would enjoy it. also, you can always take the spray tan in a can, like the neutrogena one, with you to respray yourself at night-if you think you are losing any color, which i doubt much over 4 days.
if you are nervous about the moles, totally go to a dermatologist and have your whole body checked over, that's what i did and i'm sure glad i did. he removed the two "suspicious" ones and i couldn't believe they were pre-melonoma....scared the wits out of me! i'm only 26, i thought, i can't have that happen....not true!

I also quit going to the tanning salon! I used to go 5 days a week for a while and got very dark and loved the color, but I did not want to keep damaging my skin. I always put on so much lotion now and moisturize a LOT. Luckily I don't have much UV damage, or at least according to those special computers that look at your skin.
I also like the Neutrogena Micromist but it also did not make me very dark, so applying it for a few days definitely helped. Right now I use Ocean Potion Ever Glow gradual tanning lotion because it gives me enough color to make me look better in my summer clothes and bikinis and it smells pretty good for a self tanner. I actually can put it on after my shower and be fine with the scent during the day.. unlike any other self tanner I've tried! It also does not rub off on my clothes and the color comes out great. I even put a little bit on my feet and it doesn't look weird.

Well, I tried going to the salons and tried the Cabana Tan which is supposedly an upgrade to the Mystic Tan. Bull! Afterwards I looked like a freak! Tan on top, nothing on my legs, and my feet were horendous!! I had to actually put my own self tanning stuff on to make it look normal!
I went to another salon yesterday to try the Mystic Tan because the girl I spoke with swore by it. Well I had it done and I have to say that I was impressed with this one. Looks very natural and covered my whole body. My feet are a little funky but besides that looks good. I think the next time I will wear the booties and just put my own self tan on my feet so they don't get so much. I do apply the lotion on them beforehand like they suggest but my feet always get so much on them. They charge $17 for the session or I could get 3 for $40. I figured I would go with the $17 for now to see if I liked it or not. I like it so now I will go for the 3 session deal.
Well just thought I would let you all know....Mystic Tan in.....Cabana Tan OUT!!
