My 9 week old DS has eczema all over his body. I have tried almost everything and still haven't found a good moisturizer for him. It helps some but he still has the dry red marks on him. Has anyone tried things like coconut oil, emu oil, evening primrose oil, etc. and how have they worked?? I was using cortosone cream on him when he had flare ups but I read a horrifying article about the side affects of even just one application and needless to say I am not going to be using that again.

I used flax seed oil with my 2 month old son. Make sure it is cold processed and in a dark bottle. Keep it in your fridge to keep in fresh. Start with a few drops in a dropper a day. If that doesn't do it - try a few drops twice a day. My son had a miracle recovery. Whenever I tried to stop using it, the eczema would return in just a few days. Give it a week or so to work.

I've used coconut oil on my eczema. It seems to help mine but can be a little messy. My mom uses it all the time on hers and it clears it right up.

I have been using Hylira for the last 7 months and have not had one single flare up since. It is amazing. Derm sais it is the purest moisturizer out there. It is nice to end the use of steroids!

hylira?? what exactly is it? and where do you get it?
my son (which is 2) has really bad eczema and we have used everything under the sun. it would be very nice to use something safe. at the moment we are using protopic. which isn't bad, but they are still not sure of the long term affects.
thanks,
brandi

Try bathing him in aveeno bath oil but be careful as it will make him very slippery and then moisturize him all over as soon as he is out of the water while his skin is still damp. I use plain glaxal base cream on my 5 year old son. My 3 kids have all had it. It's very frustrating to deal with. I also wash my son's clothes in sensitive skin laundry soap. I've read that you should also give the clothes an extra rinse.

With regards to the flax oil - do you rub it on the affected areas or take it orally? I would be willing to try this for my son.

i was about to post something very similar that i have with my baby,
he is only 13 weeks old (almost 14) and he has it really bad (probably not as bad as some but it is to me) he has it all over his face, his arms and his chest
i use a cream on him called hyrdous ointment it keeps it moist but it still seems to be getting worse
the dr's dont do much they just keep telling me to use the cream, which i am doing, he just constantly looks like a little ball of grease. he gets so frustrated sometimes cause its really itching for him :(
i dont want to be using all kinds of drugs on him already but nothing else seems to help

The flax seed oil should be given orally. I would put my sons in his bottle. It always floated to the top so he would drink it last. Just letting you know so that you don't overfill his bottle with milk, or he will never get to the oil.
