Hi

I'm a new member seeking help and advice.

I'm 33 year old and I have four children, three boys and one girl. while in labour with my daughter just over 3 years ago I felt something snap in my lower back as I had to push her out. It was really painful and I've had problems with lower back pain ever since and becomes more trouble some when I bend over.

It is unbearable at times and I have mentioned this to my doctor who just said it was down to the pregnancy, but apart from my upper back pain which I had been getting for 11-12 years now I didnt feel any discomfort or problems with lower back pain up until then.

I am considering going back to my doctor and asking to have it looked into as its really painful to bath my 3 year old. as I bend over the bath to wash her hair or to lift her out it takes a few minutes to straighten my back and is really painful and becomes mor epainful when straightening my back to normal position.

I was just wondering if anyone else has suffered this or if anyone had any idea what the problem is.

I have been to a local spiritual church recently and there is a guy who has picked up on the problems I'm having in my lower back and his advised me to have healing done, which I'm strongly considering having done, but I want to know what the problem is also, which is why I'm going to go back to see my gp and find out and even ask for a referal if need be.

But if anyone can point me in the right direction I can then read up on the information online to get some sort of name for whats going on.

Thankyou for reading and for any help and advice in advance.

Hi, Karen.
Well, we're not doctors here, just people who experience different back situations. From what you said, if it were me, I'd ask for a referral to a spine specialist. They usually can order an MRI right away. A GP usually has to take slower steps. It sounds like you have a hitch in your get-along (see the high-level medical vocabulary right there? ;) ) and it would be worth finding out if it's something important to know about, like a bulging disc or whatever. Take it step by step, but do advocate for yourself. I don't think it's not normal to have pain like that consistently.

Best wishes.

Thankyou Margaret for you reply.

I know what you mean by where no doctors LOL if only we all was, how would life be ;)

I'm going to ring my doctor first thing tomorrow and get an appointment for early next week. As I've had back pain in my upper back and neck for some 11-12 years now the doctors just presumed its linked or to do with back pain during pregnancy.

I was thinking of asking the doctor to refer me for a xray and an MRI scan as I have honestly been feeling its something more that just muscle, pregnacy pain as it just doesnt feel right and to get the snapping sudden pain in my back during delivery and it snapped that bad it felt like I had actually heard it snap, but Im not sure if I did or if it was just with the pain from it.

I'll let you know of the out come of the doctors visit as it could also help someone else if they come across suffering the same problem.

Thankyou once again, your a star

Thanks you, Panther!

OK, one more thing... pain is pain! So, if it's not anything measurable by MRI, it STILL isn't acceptable that you have this pain. I had upper back pain for 12 years - finally got bad enough that I did something about it. Turns out I had a completely herniated disc and had surgery in February. I'm 33, too! So, it's a bit of a road to recovery, but so far, I'm glad I did it. I hope (the Dr. thinks so, too) that I'll be in next to perfect shape in a year. That seems like a long time on one hand, but a lifetime of less pain sounds pretty good. I'd like to have kids so I've got to get going on being well!

Just think of what a happier, less burdened mother you can be when you're in less or no pain. I hope that motivates you to help yourself. Diagnosis is a great start. There are many treatments that work for lots of people, so hopefully you'll find something that works (PT, yoga, acupuncture, or the more invasive. who knows?)

Stay strong! :)

I think it is important for you to get a MRI done. It sounds like a disc went in your lower back. I swear I could hear mine go and the pain. I have pain now from a failed back surgery, but there is no pain like when that disc went. The MRI will tell you if a disc is bulged and what it is pushing on. They can also order PT if you need it. Hopefully it will be a case that can be resolved without any invasive procedures. Good Luck

Childbirth is what started my problems herniating discs in my lower back. That was 17 years ago and just had fusion a few months back for it. But I made it 17 years I guess. I would defintiley have it check out.

I have been to a local spiritual church recently and there is a guy who has picked up on the problems I'm having in my lower back and his advised me to have healing done...

A person I was chatting with mentioned he had done something similar.
He had terrible back pain, etc etc and as a last resort, he went to a Benny Hinn show.
Benny Hinn is a television evangelical "Hallelujah! You're cured!" personality here in the states.
Anyways, the guy claimed he was totally cured by the "minister" and that I should go get "saved" by him.

Umm....yeah, sure.

Anyways, I agree with the others. Get yourself an MRI and some X-rays.
Goodluck and let us know what they find.
