Dear all:
I just came from my neurosurgeon and he explained to me that I may have significant scar tissue that has formed after the L5-S1 lumbar fusion(8/1/2007).
He said that the CT scan was not definitive enough for him and now I am booked for a CT myelogram.
Could some of you please share your experiences with this procedure?
Is it as painful as he is saying?
Any info will be deeply appreciated.
Take care and God Bless.

I had one a few years ago, it wasn't all that bad. For mine they just stuck a needle in my back and tilted the table so my head was lowered. For yours in the lumbar it will probably be the other way. After it's over you have to lay low for a day or so. I didn't get a headache or any of the other nasty stuff. So hopefully you will have the same luck as me.

Hi, I just had one about 2 weeks ago and it was not that bad. Just a little uncomfortable, they have the flourscopy machine to know that they are going in the right place, place the needle and turn the x ray table down i guess so the dye can go all the way through and then after that you go straight to ct and thats it. The will give you instruction on a headache and not to lay totally flat and that was it. I wish you the best for yours, let us know how it come out.

As far as pain goes, it beats a Discogram any day. Little pain as far as the needle and dye go. They had me sit in the waiting room afterwards for 15 minutes to see if the spinal headache was going to happen. Then it was out the door with a driver. Can't drive yourself. Mine didn't show the scar tissue that I now have, but it did show bone spurs. The MRI/contrast dye showed the scar tissue.

forthemasses,
It is not that bad, I have had worse things, mine was at attempted and they tried in 2 places.
It is a long story and it is not bad at all for the most part. The important thing is that they tried and could not get any fluid for some reason. He said he was in the right palce / but I guess it was not meant to be. They put in the dye on the chance that it would work but it did not. Not mushc pain involved...

I am disappointed at your results but hope that you found some answers through other exams.
I will be aware of the possibility.
Thank you for posting.

Ryan,
It's good to know that they are moving forward with the testing. Hopefully, they will find something that will provide you with the relief you need.
I'll definitely be thinking of you on the 18th!
