I know that birthcontrol isnt as effective while on antibiodics, but is it still safe to take it? because I dont want to wait an entire month to do anything if I only have a few more days left of taking my medicine (its for a very bad cold like thing, I cant get him sick, so dont worrie about that!) but like after I use up the antibiodics will my BC still be effective again? or do I have to use other protection too? (its not a problem, JW.) anyone know? if you do I thank you!!! =)

I always use back up when on antibiotics and taking BCP. I don't know how long the meds stay in your system after you stop taking them so I use back for the rest of the pack. I am on bactrim now. I have to take them for 30 days for swollen lymph nodes. I have been using backup and will continue for the rest of this pack and a week into the other pack. I started the antibiotics the same day as my new pack .
With each pill you take the meds break it down causing a dose of each pill. If each pill you take is a different amount then I'd think you would not be protected the entire month
Better to be safe than sorry. It's really not a big deal to me. I use the foam or the films with every act.

Ask your doctor and pharmacist about the antibiotic you are taking. Some affect the pill and some don't. I believe Penicillin does. Sometimes it says on the bottle if it affects the pill. When I got my wisdom teeth removed, I had to take some medication that said it would affect my pill. If you don't want to wait the rest of the month to have sex, definitely use a condom if your antibiotic affects the pill! You can also research it online to double check.. usually you can find out if it affects the pill or not.

Im on amoxicillin for the antibiotics, and apri is my pill that I take. the doctor told me that they WILL effect it and that it will make it not work as good. I was just wondering if it was ok to take the 2 together. the doctor wasnt my normal doctor and they didnt know exactly what kind of BC I was taking and I didnt ask. (kinda dumb I know) but yeah. thank you!!! =) I never would have thought about how long it stays in your system though. kinda good think to remember when it comes to these sort of things!!! lol! thank you! thank you! and thank you again!! =)

yes, it's OK to take the two together, that way you aren't starting over from scratch when you get off the antibiotics.

Yes, definitely still take your birth control pill! Don't stop taking it.. but just use a backup birth control method that month while you are taking the amoxicillin. It should affect all birth control pills about the same though.
