Hi All,
I havent posted in a long while , ive been really busy FINALLY concentrating on getting better from my ptsd.
It got to the point where I needed to stop "pretending" everything was ok, and that my councelling was enough for me, so I went to my family doc and she advised I go into a psychiatric hospital for treatment.
That was really scary for me at first but after the first night I was ok and I ended up staying for 2 weeks. They taught me that art therapy is very good for releasing emotions that are difficult to accept we have and are difficult to articulate. I stared to really enjoy it and have continued it since I have been out of hospital.
In some places , including my home town the words "mental illness" or "psychiatric illness" are met with fear and prejudice and I have to admit I myself expected to go in to hospital and see naked people running around banging pots and pans together!!!!- well maybe not that bad ,but you know what I mean.
In fact it was nothing like that , the people in there were kind and friendly and were suffering as I was ,so it was really nice to talk to them as they completely understood my symptoms etc.
Im not ashamed of having to go in and get the treatment I needed , in fact Im proud Ive done it and am now getting the proper care I need.
I guess what Im saying is , please tell someone if you are not happy with the treatment you are receiving or think you need something more because we deserve to recover from this and have "normal" happy lives.
Take care all

Kiki,
I am so glad that you had a positive experience in the hospital. It sounds like you've learned some things that are really helping you. It's really great to hear something so positive! Please, keep posting!

Hi Kiki!
Like you, I found my time in the hospital to be a very healing and positive experience. Art therapy, music therapy, pet therapy.... it was like kindergarden for grown-ups! :)
You might find it helpful to write down some of the tools you've learned, if you haven't done that already. Not only is the act of writing them down reinforcing of those tools, sometimes it's useful to go back and re-read them when facing old thought or behavior patterns.
I'm so glad you're feeling good about your experience and hope your recovery continues to be an upwards and positive one. :)

Hi Kiki......I am also so happy that you have gotten the help you deserve to live a better more peaceful and contented life. Although I have never been hospitalized I have also never heard anything good about the experience except from my sister. As Nyxie said, writing is a great tool. It was and still is very therapuetic for me.

Kiki:
It is refreshing to hear such good news with regards to your progress.
You put in the effort and are now reaping the rewards.
May you continue to walk that road and now that you have some tools, bring them with you along life's journey.
They really tend to come in handy(From personal experience).
