Does anyone take Prozac for anxiety, and does it work?

I have taken Prozac on two different occasions throughout my life time. I was diagnosed with depression when I was about 12 or 13. At about the age of 24 I was put on Prozac and I thought it was the best thing that ever happened to me. I thought I was super woman. I worked 13-16 hours a day, had a newborn and almost never slept. Once I felt like I did not need it anymore I was taken off of it by my doctor.

I was off meds for about 15 months and needed to go back on something and decided that Prozac worked once, why not go back on it? I did okay for a couple of months and then I started having horrible nightmares where I was hurting my kids. When I woke up the next morning I threw them away and called the doctor. I have been put on so many other things and was diagnosed with bipolar about 1 year ago and have not found anything so far that helps and the doctor has only changed 1 med and I have told him that is not working. However, the drugs work different on all people.

How long have you been taking it? If you just need something for anxiety there are other drugs out there besides Prozac.

I take prozac and I think it is working, I still have some anxiety, but I am much better than I was a month ago when I was crying nonstop and scared all the time.

Do you still have to take any benzo's? How much Prozac do you take?
Have you ever taken anything else like another SSRI with it? How long did it take to 'kick in'.

I loved Prozac. Unfortunatly i wasn't able to take it for very long due to another heath issue I was having at the time.

I was on it many years ago and it helped BUT I thought I was cured so quit taking it, battled anxiety/depression and Dr. has tried about everything on the market for me but I do NOT handle side effects with them. Am now on effexor & alprazolam and not sure it's working great but for now will keep taking them. (I was put back on prozac again a few years ago but I didn't think it was working, guess I'm wanting a miracle cure right away !)..

I take 40mg of Prozac and it took at least 5 days to kick in. I also take Klonopin 3 times per day and Remeron at bedtime. I go back to the doc next week and he'll determine if I still need the klonopin and remeron anymore

Yes I took it for anxiety and it worked a treat. When I felt like I could cope on my own..I weaned off it...was the best thing ever to help me cope at the time.
