LindsayO23 07-02-2007, 09:08 PM I am having this procedure done. I am really scared. Have any of you had this? I heard I am going to be in major pain. Please help. Lindsay Sponsor Army Wife 07-02-2007, 09:18 PM Hi Lindsay~ I had one done a few years back, and it really wasn't all that bad. I had a little cramping- but I am used to that with my endometriosis. Be sure to take something for pain about 30 minutes before hand, and try not to worry. That being said, I have heard that if your tubes are blocked, it tends to be a little more uncomfortable. Best of luck, and try to relax. You should be just fine. Laurie LindsayO23 07-02-2007, 09:24 PM Thank you so much! I am a militarywife also-so you understand the doctors don't tell you much! All I know and was told-I was having this before another round of clomid was given. My husband is having his semen count done on thursday. I hope it is all good. I just can't believe that good people have such a hard time getting pregnant when there are people out there that have babys and dont need them or take care of them! Sorry I am venting. I will stay in touch Thanks again Lindsay Army Wife 07-02-2007, 09:38 PM Are you having it done by a military dr? I know they don't tell you much, they are used to dealing with soldiers- and treat the wives just the same, unfortunately.:dizzy: Feel free to vent anytime, as that is what this board is for. Without it, I would have lost my sanity LONG ago. I know the feeling- truly. I used to think that I must have done something terribly wrong to have to endure all this infertility, however, that is not the case. Life has trials throughout, and this is just our chosen trial. We will all overcome it, one way or the other. I know this doesn't make it any easier, however, you are not alone. We are all in this together... Take care, Laurie kelly515 07-02-2007, 09:56 PM does anyone know how much this will cost? I know my health care wont cover it and I will have to pay out of pocket. not looking forwards to getting it.... :( kskotak 07-02-2007, 10:57 PM Hi there. I just had an HSG test done a few weeks ago and pretty much sent the same question to the board. I took a Vicodin about 30 minutes before going in, but I was still very nervous. The procedure didn't take very long (maybe 10 minutes) and it hurt, but was not unbearable. Here's how it went for me: They put a balloon into my cervix and inflated it once it was in place in order to open my cervix so that the catheter could go in. The balloon inflation was the most painful part, and happens pretty fast. Once the catheter is in and the ink begins to be injected, I was moved up on the table so that my legs were lying stright on the table, then they had me turn from side to side. I was able to watch the whole thing on the u/s screen and it's pretty cool. My tubes were not blocked and I heard that it hurts a little more if they are. I hope this helps! My insurance did pay for it, so I'm not sure how much it cost without insurance. I would call the lab beforehand to find out - they, or your doctor, should be able to tell you. Good luck! Please post once it's done to let us know how you are doing. leslie76 07-03-2007, 07:16 AM I had an HSG done 2 weeks ago. I took 2 valium before I went it, but it didn't help me relax. However, it hurt for about 2 minutes, but it was not terrible. I had some cramping afterwards, but it wasn't any more uncomfortable than when AF comes. Mine cost $650, and insurance covered it. :) amelu 07-03-2007, 11:50 AM Hi, I had one about three weeks ago, and it was a little painful, I also had bleeding afterward, I took tylonal before but it didn't really help. My insurance covered it but the cost was 650 for me if not. I hope this helps, let us know how it went. AimeeM Tigrilla 07-03-2007, 06:00 PM I also had one done recently. I was totally oblivious about what I was in for, for some reason, I thought it was just going to be an x-ray and a pap type thing (which I'm really used to at this point). So, I didn't worry before I went in. Then when I got there, the doctor looked at me really concerned, and asked if I was nervous. Then I thought, hmmm should I be??? I did take some IBprofin ahead of time. I have to say it was quite uncomfortable, and painful during parts of it - but it was fairly brief. They had trouble getting the tube part in, so that didn't feel too great. The worst part for me was when the die went in, I was totally unprepaired for that part. It felt like major cramping and I had all three doctors standing around me - they wern't too comforting. One tried to make small talk, but I just ignored him, closed my eyes, and concentrated on my breathing. It wasn't pleasent, but it went by pretty quickly and I did get to see what the die was doing and that was pretty cool. I didn't have any blockages. I had light bleeding for a couple of days, and cramping pains for a couple of weeks. Try not to get too worked up about it, it will be uncomfortable, but the hard part will not last for too long. PrincessSweetNS 07-04-2007, 10:56 AM Good luck cherie! sspencervip 07-04-2007, 05:22 PM I had this procedure done 2 yrs. ago. All I took was the aspirin they told me to take and I was fine. Do not be afraid. This was very unconfortable but I tolerated it. All was fine with me. The procedure cost me $500 because I paid cash otherwise it would have been $550. Good luck. Hubby and I are still trying after 4.5 yrs. I'm thinking of using gonal-f? Fillin 07-04-2007, 10:19 PM I had this done many many years ago for infertility. They couldn't find any scarring, but I became pregnant three months after and they thought that I had had some adhesions from a previous c section which the procedure took care of :) Lisa LindsayO23 07-05-2007, 07:39 PM Thank you girls so much! I feel a little better. I have ot wait to start my cycle-then I go in for it. I will let you all know what happens!'' Lindsay deannette1 07-05-2007, 08:10 PM Hey all, I had the test done last month and it was pretty painful. The tech had to do it twice because there wasnt enough fluid. I found out later it was so painful because my left tube was blocked. Fortunately my insurance did pay (660.00)for it because I had a myomectomy last year so I said it was for a medical followup instead of me wanting to concieve. The procedure is not a thing I would put on my first to do list more like my last. I categorized it like the worst menstrual pains you could have. But good luck as everyone has their own feelings. Nicki LindsayO23 07-09-2007, 02:48 PM I guess I am pretty Lucky b/c my husband is military-so the procedure is free along with all of my meds like clomid ect. I am really not looking foward to this at all, but I guess if it gives me answers! What will happen if it's blocked? Lindsay ASPROUSEY05 07-09-2007, 03:03 PM if your tubes are blocked i think the dr will suggest ivf. im not sure, there may be procedures to try to open the tubes, but im not positive. i know clomid, injections etc. even iui wont work if your tubes are blocked, bc you wont release any eggs. the dr's make every women dealing with IF go through this test, so dont assume your tubes are blocked, think POSITIVE!!! it is just precautionary. i guess the dr's feel why spend valuable time treating a patient with iui or meds if her tubes are blocked? i wish you luck, it really does only last a few minutes, and the pain will subside. we are thinking about you. <3 aimee LindsayO23 07-09-2007, 09:29 PM Thanks Aimee! Your so sweet! Well I am hoping for the best! Well I know IVF is so expensive. I am not sure if we can afford it though. Is IUI cheaper? I guess only time will tell! Also one more question....if you don't ovulate-do you still have the "Egg-white" stuff? I thought those were signs of ovulation but my doctor says I am not ovulating. I get so confused with all of this! Well I am suppose to have Af on thursday then call to get my HSG appt. I will let everyone know how it goes. I think I am going to take aleve before I go in. Babydust! Lindsay rubynz 07-09-2007, 11:43 PM Hi Lindsay Just wanted to wish you luck! Depending on how bad the blockaging is and what is causing it they may be able to 'unclog' your tubes through laproscopic surgery. You can still release an egg if your tubes are blocked but it can't be fertilised as the sperm aren't able to reach it. You can still have all the signs of ovulation and yet not actually ovulate. Sometimes an egg will be sitting in the follicle causing you to experience the egg white cervical mucus but it may not necessarily be released. Your tubes may not even be blocked but if they are there are a few things they can do for you before moving onto IVF. I would think laproscopic surgery would be your next course of action. Also, sometimes they are just blocked with mucus and the dye from the HSG is enough to clear them - I hope this is the case with you and that you get pregnant very soon! Ruby PrincessSweetNS 07-10-2007, 09:40 AM Hi Lindsay!! I would also like to wish you Good Luck cherie!!! :bouncing: :bouncing: country2001gal 07-11-2007, 12:49 PM I am new on here, but i was reading the post and i just had an HSG done Friday july 6th. The only part that was painful was the speculum being in there so long. The actual procedure was a piece of cake. The cost for my procedure was 835.00 so i guess it depends on where you live as far as cost goes. I had to pay 100.00 and i am still waiting to see how much insurance will pay. My doctor told me that if my tubes were blocked that i could have surgery which he stated would probably just be a waste of money and probably would not be successful. He stated the only other option would be IVF. Well luckily my tubes were clear. So i just started on prometrium today and once my cycle starts we will start ovulataion induction. So good luck lindsey!! LindsayO23 07-11-2007, 07:16 PM Thanks so much girls! I really appreciate it! I will keep you all up to date on what happens! I am hoping that after this-I will get prego! After 2 years of trying...I can't wait any longer!!:blob_fire I know it will happen in Gods Time. We are military and stationed in Hawaii-my DH seems to think that God is making us wait until we get back on the mainland and closer to Family. I am just ready now. But really thank you to all of you for all of your support. I think we all understand how this feels...I think some people don't Baby Dust to all! Lindsay Kari15 07-11-2007, 07:35 PM Hi Lindsay. I know you still have to wait for AF before scheduling your HSG, but I just wanted to wish you luck and hope that yours goes as smoothly as mind did. I was VERY anxious going into it and feared the pain, but the worst part for me was when I hit my head on the x-ray machine when I went to lay back on the table (so be careful when they tell you to lay back) :D Seriously tho, it was a bit uncomfortable, but luckily my tubes weren't blocked and I couldn't even feel the dye going in. Good luck to you and let us know how everything goes. LindsayO23 07-12-2007, 06:50 PM Hey Kari! I will watch out for that! I am suppose to have Af today....waiting. Not hoping though! Thank you so much! Maybe it won't show...that would be great!! Lindsay Kari15 07-12-2007, 11:45 PM Oh, that would be great!!! I hope that she is a no show!!! Keep us posted!!! LindsayO23 07-13-2007, 07:17 PM she is a 1 day no show. I can't think about it though! I'll tell you one thing---(I am not buying any test) until I am like 3 months late! I hate that feeling of seeing Negatives! But I will keep you posted! *** Baby Dust**** lindsay Kari15 07-13-2007, 07:30 PM Lindsay if you are 3 months late I will by you a test! ... and hopefully your belly will already be growing so the test would just be a formality at that point! :) pugpup06 07-13-2007, 09:24 PM I wouldn't swea the HSG at all. I had one done in 1999 and I was in and out within 30 minutes. Took a couple Advil before bed and was good as new the next day! I am sure it will go just fine for you! LindsayO23 07-16-2007, 01:32 PM 4 days late---I wonder if it's coming. I am at the point---if it's coming-come now so I can have this done. If not...PLEASE let me be pregnant! I know how we all tend to over do our minds when we are late with "False" symptons-but last night I was so sick to my stomach. I just didn't feel right all night. It was really strange. But like I said I don't try to read to much into that. Feeling ok today- So Kari... Where are you at in your "TTC" Stage?! Let me know! Lindsay rubynz 07-16-2007, 08:21 PM Hi Lindsay I hope this is a good sign for you! Four days late certainly sounds very hopeful. I am keeping my fingers crossed for you! Ruby TryN2BMommy 07-17-2007, 08:26 AM Hi Lindsay, I've been thinking about you. Any sign of AF yet? If not, are you gonna test? Hoping you are pg!! :D Holly PrincessSweetNS 07-17-2007, 09:58 AM :D Waiting for results, cherie!! Tell us as soon as you can!! Hoping you are pg!! **BABY DUST*** LindsayO23 07-17-2007, 07:03 PM No sign yet! I want to test-by my dh says we should wait-wait-wait! what do you think? I hate negatives!!!! Lindsay Kari15 07-17-2007, 07:21 PM OMG, Lindsay, I don't know how you are holding out on testing!!! Your DH must be incredibly patient. Now, I have always been one to succumb to those evil HPT's, so you gotta know that I would recommend taking one at your next morning pee. ;) But even if you do and it's negative, you must remember those results aren't conclusive. Oh, and yes, seeing a BFN is the worst thing ever! BTW, I just had my first IVF cycle cancelled two weeks ago because of severe OHSS risks after 9 days of stimming. So I'm just waiting for all those follies and eggs to die down :( and hopefully AF will show in a week or so cause I'd really like to get back to TTC again very soon. In the meantime, I am praying that you've got yourself a miracle that you'll be celebrating anytime now!!!! rubynz 07-17-2007, 08:04 PM Hi Lindsay I don't know whether you should test or not. I am like you, I hate getting negatives on HPT's but I would think that by now you should get a pretty accurate result and remember that even if it is negative it is not over to AF shows. Good luck - I really hope you are posting us good news soon! Ruby PrincessSweetNS 07-18-2007, 09:47 AM Oh Lindsay, cherie, I do not know how you do it! If you do an HPT, remember that they give out false negatifs all the time! If you want to test, make sure you do it with the rules, for example, first morning wee wee. Becuase let's just sya you did it at lunch, and you got the horrible BFN, then you will wonder if it was only N beucase it wasn't first morning wee wee. So make sure you follow the rules :D And of course, let us know how it goes!! I'm praying for you cherie!! *****baby dust***** LindsayO23 07-18-2007, 02:18 PM So-late yesterday afternoon I had this very-very lite spotting.1 time only Not even enough to call it a period. Late last night in bed-I had severe chills- I did not fill good at all. . Nothing else since then. Do you guys think this was a/f showing her ugly face? Or what do you think would have caused that? I am wondering if I should go ahead and call the dr to see if I should schedule the procedure? BTW-I'm ok with a/f if she is here. That means I will have to keep on trying! Lindsay TryN2BMommy 07-18-2007, 02:48 PM Hmm, that doesn't really sound like AF. Maybe the start of her? Do you usually spot before she arrives full force? Sometimes it can be so hard to know what is going on!! I really hope you get some answers soon... Holly PrincessSweetNS 07-18-2007, 02:59 PM That doesn't sound like AF to me, either. Perhaps she is just poking in. Or perhaps its implantation? What about the chills.... are you getting sick? I hope not!! ****baby dust***** LindsayO23 07-18-2007, 06:31 PM I have not had anymore. I know-this is very strange for me. Usually-it comes all at once. I called the DR. They said I should wait until the normal period. So I guess we will have to wait and see. I just don't feel well today. Not in a very good mood either! I'll let you girls know! Babydust! Lindsay TryN2BMommy 07-19-2007, 08:53 AM Hey Lindsay, I don't blame you for being in a bad mood. All the ups and downs of hoping and worrying and thinking AF is here then she's not...:dizzy:  BUT, the good news is that doesn't sound like it was AF. How late is she? Have you decided when to test yet? I'm hoping for you!!! BABY DUST Holly LindsayO23 07-19-2007, 01:47 PM Hey Holly- Well I am 7 days late- I had cramps yesterday after that little spotting issue but i have not started yet. The cramps are gone today. I went ahead and made the appt for the HSG b/c Ijust knew af was coming yesterday with the cramps but it never did. know I am wondering if i should hold out and cancel for a couple more days. The lady told me I should be on my period at least 4 full days. What do you think. Lindsay TryN2BMommy 07-19-2007, 03:04 PM If it were me, I wouldn't go through with the HSG until I was 100% sure I wasn't preggo. Better safe than sorry. The reason they will only do HSG's in the beginning of your cycle - after AF and before O - is to ensure they are not performing them on pg women. If you were just spotting for that brief amount of time, I don't think you should count that as AF. I am still holding onto hope that you are preggo!!! :D :D Please go get an HPT so we can start celebrating w/ you!! :) :) Holly LindsayO23 07-19-2007, 03:14 PM Ok...I am going to take one today. I will let you girls know. Please cross those fingers! Lindsay TryN2BMommy 07-19-2007, 03:18 PM Lindsay, I have EVERYTHING crossed for you...fingers, toes, eyes, you name it! GOOD LUCK!!!!!!! Holly PrincessSweetNS 07-19-2007, 04:10 PM Hahaha, Holly, you just gave me a hilarious mental picture. Yes Lindsay, everything crossed as much as possible and hopes and prayers. Can't wait to hear the good news!!!! ****baby dust***** Kari15 07-19-2007, 07:16 PM Hey Lindsay! So she still didn't show, huh?! (I agree with the others, I don't think that what you saw was AF.) Well it is starting to sounds like maybe you are caving a bit and getting ready to do the hpt. I am wishing you tons of luck and really hope to see a BFP post from you very soon!!!! PrincessSweetNS 07-20-2007, 09:33 AM Salut Lindsay!! Did you test, cherie? How did it go? Hoping and waiting to hear the good news!!! **baby dust** Kari15 07-20-2007, 01:30 PM Yes, Lindsay, anxiously awaiting to hear if you tested! I hope so and I hope you are out celebrating!!! TryN2BMommy 07-20-2007, 01:35 PM Yeah Lindsay! I was trying not to bother you about testing, but keeping everything crossed for so long is starting to get really uncomfortable! :jester: Hope to hear some good news from you soon!! Holly LindsayO23 07-20-2007, 02:33 PM Aloha girls! Well I have not tested yet. I was going to go get one yesterday afternoon-I got so busy. So... Last night i got on the treadmill, doing a lite brisk walk. I started to have severe cramping in my lower abdomen/pelvic area and around my back. I had to stop b/c it started to make me so sick. By the way-still no more spotting. Very icky feeling/moody So this morning I called my doctor and told them everything that has been going on and the I still have the mild cramps this morning. He told me to come in this afternoon. I wonder what all this could be? I read alittle online-some of these signs could be an etopic pregnancy? I guess i am a little scared and confused. So I will write you guys as soon as I am done with the Doctor. B/c of the time differece (Hawaii) You will get it tommorow. O and I am going to cancel the HSG appt for next friday until I see what happens today. I hope all is well with you guys! LindsayO23 07-20-2007, 02:34 PM O and Holly...it's ok, you can uncross for now! You may have to recross later-so save that energy! Linds =-) PrincessSweetNS 07-20-2007, 02:42 PM Allo Linds!! :( I am sorry you had pains last night. Perhaps it could be a sing of ectopic... but also I heard some normal are like that as well... one lady I work with, she would ave such sharp, painful cramping, and she thought something was really wrong. Especially since the sites she looked on said that twinges and mild discomfort is normal in early pg. But it turned out everything was fine. :D Either way I look forward to hearing how you appointmetn went!! Will go. You know what I mean hahaha! :jester: BABY DUST!! TryN2BMommy 07-20-2007, 02:50 PM Hi Lindsay, I'm glad to hear your dr isn't taking any chances and is seeing you right away! I really hope it is not an ectopic pg. Try not to worry yourself about it (I know, easier said than done). I hope your appt brings you many answers...and only good news. I will be praying for you!!! Holly LindsayO23 07-20-2007, 02:51 PM Geneviève-Angélique, I will-as soon as I am done. I will feel better knowing either way! Thanks! Baby Dust to you to! *** *** *** Lins Kari15 07-20-2007, 10:38 PM Hey Lindsay. I hope you got good news at the doctor appt today! I wouldn't worry at this point about an ectopic. I know they are all different, but I think it would be a bit early for those kinds of signs if it were anyway. I had to term my ectopic last summer at about 6.5 weeks along ( :( ) and never had any pain whatsoever, just some bleeding towards the last few days. What you are feeling could very well be signs of a healthy pregnancy! That is what I am praying for, you can count on that! Please let us know how you are doing when you can!!!!!! TryN2BMommy 07-22-2007, 03:20 PM Hi Lindsay, just wanted to let you know I was thinking of you. I hope everything is well and you get a BFP. I am sending lots of prayers your way that this is your time :) Keep us posted. AimeeM ccd2077 07-23-2007, 04:02 PM I had it done a few months ago, and I am not going to lie, it did hurt. However, the pain goes away VERY quickly, and then you have the comfort of knowing if it was blocked or not. Also, there are many stories of people who have the procedure done and even if it is not blocked, it can open them up even more. Then, BANG!, you're prego! LindsayO23 07-23-2007, 09:42 PM Well I am not pregnant at least I don;t think I am. I did a urine test at the doctor. I went to the doctor-he didnt really say what what causing the cramps. He didnt do an ultrasound (Pelvic_ either. He gave me progesterone to start my cycles- I am not having the procedure done this week either, He wants me to wait one more cycle. Then we will do it. I did a blood test-I don't know the results of that yet. I was laying there in bed-I started thinking that maybe I should just stop it all for a few months. My husband is leaving for Iraq soon anyways-I don;t want to get pregnant and have the baby while he is away. Well I will let you girsl know!
