I had a cavity filled in the back of my mouth when i was younger. A few weeks ago, a little of the tooth chipped off underneath the cavity. Now, after eating some toast i notice an empty slot where the cavity had been  well i was just wondering.. for some reason there isn't much tooth left there. what do you think a dentist would have to do? It's a pretty big hole and it's soft like gums.
also, is it ok to have swallowed a filling? one of those silver/grey ones..

Well, I would get to the dentist soon , so the tooth does not get infected an all the air getting in the root . Most likely fill the tooth and put a cap on it . Don't was to much time with this .
All the best,

Jacob, It is totally OK if you swallowed the filling. That will pass through your body. I would go to the dentist soon. Depending on the hole, the dentist will make a decision. If it is too large the tooth might have to be extracted. If he feels he can replace the filling than that is what he will do. It might require a post and a crown. All of this sounds terrible, but it really isn't. Just go soon so that it does not become infected.
