Hello fellow TMD sufferers,

I'm hoping that someone out there has had arthrocentesis done by an oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Recently my doctor has suggested I get arthrocentesis and a steroid injection to help with my closed lock (I have anteriorly dislocated disck...one without reduction, the other with). This basically means that he thinks the injection would help me be able to open up more and perhaps cause less day-to-day pain.

I'm concerned that this might actually cause more pain, or result in faster degeneration of my joint since it is a steroid.

Any suggestions? Help? Anyone out there with a similar type of TMJ disorder?

I hope you are all finding time to relax and perhaps try acupuncture in order to manage the pain.

Thanks,

Kiki

I had a form of arthrocentesis done on my tmj in February. The doctor went in and removed scar tissue from around my joint so that I could open wider. When I went in I could only open about an inch, and now I have a bit more room. He didn't use an steroids with me, but he used botox to relax the muscles, I don't think that's a steroid. Your problem may require a different procedure though. Good Luck.

I did not realzie arthrocentesis was also a surgical procedure. I had it done on my back and it was non invasive for pain. Passed a wand of some sort over me I think (it was many yrs, ago)
I have tmjd - rt. jt out of place. Did you have botox in your TMJ?
